The Multitasking Cypriot Trait ......

Postby phoenix » Mon Feb 04, 2008 1:46 pm

Do Cypriots possess a special talent for multitasking? :?

Are Cypriots unique in the extent of tasks they can undertake simultaneously with ease, and without seemingly any exhaustion?

Today whilst having a tooth seen to, the dentist was actually drilling whilst balancing her mobile to her ear, speaking and only pausing with the drill to finish addressing a parcel. In all, she answered four calls on her mobile whilst seeing to the tooth, addressed said parcel and sorted her hair/make-up ..... in the space of ~ 10 minutes. 8)

No complaints about the efficacy of the dental treatment, didn't feel neglected as she was constantly hands on and chatting to me about schools etc, just amazed at the ease with which she carried out the other tasks.

Any Cypriots out there managed to do more than this multi-talented busy dentist mum?

I would say she was especially talented…

Most Cypriots slow down dramatically on the motorway when they take an incoming ‘phone call so I’d say they are not quite so good at the multi-tasking malarkey. Also, Cypriot tradesmen that have several jobs tend to be… shall we say unreliable.

Perhaps it is just the women that can do it but then that would be the same the world over. Necessity and all that…

Her phone rang a different ring-tone each time she had a call, and she seemed to pick up on ongoing conversations with ease.

(Or .... was it that she had more than one phone :? )

Anyway, maybe she is particularly good at having her connections under control.

I am surprised the male of the species is not so diligent, though?

Single tasking is a challenge for most of us…

I think it's really rude, professionals where you have paid for their time and they pick up a call mid-sentence!!! :? It is so unprofessional but most do it - accountants, doctors, dentists, lawyers.....!

Niki .... the weird thing was, I didn't at any point feel neglected or that she was not in full control.

I must say ....... not that I am a regular dental patient  ... the last time I had a dental examination, the dentist in the UK barely spoke to me, just did the usual checks and then passed me on to the receptionist to pay the bill.

This lady today, was chatty, very hands on (..... barely charged anything) ... but just seemed to manage to talk to a number of people as well as me... all with the aid of her one (or four) phone (s).

She found out a lot about me and I about her, and she is just a busy mum .... but is self-employed and very successful ... and multitasks to her hearts content. :D

It would be interesting to know if this is rare, common or as suggested, confined just to the women.
