Reply to solar power

Postby purdey » Mon Feb 04, 2008 11:04 am

I renovated two 400 year old houses in Cyprus some years ago.Well,a team of Syrian stone masons,Cypriot builders,an Indian eletrician and a German plumber did.My idea was to have the houses to run fully off free energy.
Unfortunately there was little or no help available to go ahead with a full system. However we managed to get a full central heating system and hot water system that runs off solar power. The central heating is underfloor, piped water which also runs full length towel rails in three bathrooms, and also heats the mirrors and one wall in each bathroom. As the solar panels do not always provide enough hot water in the winter,we use a wood burning Aga with a back boiler in the winter.
We are looking into with the Cyprus Electricity Board of adapting the system to provide electricity. This would be connected to a separate meter, and would be fed to the national grid.Slow progress but the electricity board have shown interest.

For some reason I could not reply to your post, hence new post, sorry.

That must have cost you an arm and a leg. We are selling our house in France and will buy another over here. One of the things I am really keen on is an Aga. Which company did you use, and did you have to sort out your own Transportation ?

I used Aga in Shopshire.I then had it shipped from Liverpool,it then went shared container.Price for shipping £325.00,and £70 from Limassol port to the village.I then had a guy from England fly over and install it.

Aga will ship and install in France..
