"Sling yer bleeden 'ook"

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Eliko » Mon Feb 04, 2008 9:31 pm

miltiades, now come on, the expression is widely used (particularly among the older generation) in order that the use of foul language can be avoided.

In any case, "Sling yer bleeden 'ook" does have a certain 'jena se qua' about it and can also be delivered/received as a form of endearment.

Well we have been asking them politely to leave, for some decades now.

IMHO Diplomacy is overrated ........ I am with your old chappie, tell em to sling their 'ooks and go back to Turkey.

In fact we could write it on a mountainside ......

I've seen pictures on websites that show just what 'politeness' must mean in the Cypriot lexicon. The graffiti scrawled on walls in Nicosia facing the Green Line are not exactly polite requests for Turkish forces to leave, aren't they?

The expression 'Sling your hook' is a very old expression,as it was used in the Royal Navy in the days of the fights against pirates in the Caribbean.
