The Cypriot Constitution would have to be amended to include English as an official language in Cyprus.

I know that Aidan. I was pointing out the necessity for the Anthem to mean the same in all three. I was not the person disputing the nmber of official languages.

Oz 68, is your sentence finished yet?

Welcome to the forum by the way. Be prepared for a very very warm (hot) welcome from our GC friends.

Deniz, the Cypriot national anthem would not necessarily have to be a direct translation of each other for all 3 versions, because of the differing rules of grammar.Of course, the meaning would have to be the same. The reason why I suggested a version of the Cypriot national anthem in English,is because there are Greek-speaking Cypriots who don't speak Cypriot Turkish & Turkish-speaking Cypriots who don't speak Cypriot Greek.English is the commonly spoken language when someone from one community is talking to someone from the other community.

The words have to reflect that Cyprus has a unique cultural & linguistic identity, plus it can reflect Cyprus' status as an independent member state of the British Commonwealth.

What do you think?

The 'highlighted ' would also highlight the differences of the two communities. You ought to have a commonality of ideas. For example most GCs are very proud of their 'ancestry' and their 'Greek language and heritage'. Highlighting this in an anthem would be in contravention to the spirit of the idea.

Oz68,as you are in Kyrenia, you are in the same country as anyone who is in Limassol & Paphos. The common cultural & linguistic identity is one as Cypriots.A common national anthem would go some way towards building a common future for the people of both parts of Cyprus,& reunite both parts of the island under a common administration, albeit, one in which both Greece & Turkey would be forced to butt out of.

A similar thing occurred in Germany. The desire for the reunification of Germany proved to be too strong, but it occurred.

Maybe the Cypriot National anthem shoudn't have any words at all. Just a melody and everyone could just go 'la la la la la' to the tune. :)

Kafenes, having a national anthem without words is like having a car without brakes. The Spanish are having trouble finding acceptable words for their national anthem.

mate no point forcing anything ..... just willingness to change. I totally agree with you.

I thank God I feel Cypriot, and happy to live with all Cypriots any part of Cyprus if allowed and create a new anthem. :) good luck in your search
