The National Anthem

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

humanist wrote:Phoenix you sure know how to wind people up dontcha, personally I like it for greece but not for Cyprus. Am one of those weirdos who believe in a Cypriot nation where all its people identify as Cypriots and work together for the betterment of the nation;) I cannot trace my families links back to the greeks I tried I got 5 generation back, I found Italian lineage but not Greek.

No problem ... the logic being, if the Cypriot flag was designed by a Turk, then the National Anthem, by the same logic balances out, having been written by a Greek.

The singing of it in Kypriaka allows for the final input. :D

(The dialect from my village is particularly goooood! )

Phoenix, having the Cypriot national anthem only in Cypriot Greek will not build reconciliation, which is why it should be written in both Cypriot Turkish & English as well.English is the language that links both communities.

It should stay ... but it is so long, perhaps alternate verses could be sang in Greece as the Greek National Anthem ... and the remaining alternate verses sung in Kypriaka as the Cypriot National Anthem.

Sorted :D

Madam founaklas, this thread is beginning to be very constructive. Why dont you go forth and multiply.

All Cypriots Come in Unity and Love for peace
That our beautiful Island nation surounded by sea becomes the joy and jewel of the Meditaranian
That its beautiful shores and mountain ranges be free for all to see

Let Cypriot Uniqueness govern the laws we live
The difference shared by all of us on this land be the testimony of who we are
For Cypriots share the special gifts of hospitality

Good try Humanist. We should have a competition.  In either language and translatable.

Deniz, there's 3 languages that are spoken in Cyprus, not 2.The Cypriot national anthem would have to be in English as well as in both Cypriot Greek & Cypriot Turkish.

The Cypriot Constitution would have to be amended to include English as an official language in Cyprus.
