TC immigration to Britain continues

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Kikapu » Tue Feb 05, 2008 1:07 pm

Skipper,

Great post. Once again you have covered the subjects at hand objectively as best you can. The problem with the RoC and the "TRNC" is, they make their moves much like as if they are playing a game of Chess, which the island of Cyprus is the Chess Board and the people are the pieces (pawns). Each side want to make a move and gain a piece from the opposing side, but are not willing to sacrifice any of their pieces to win a piece. Basically, each side wants to finish the game, without losing any of their pieces. Anyone who has played Chess, must know, that this is not possible. Truth be told, we have been playing Chess with our country and lives for a very long time now. Some may even call it "Russian Roulette". I blame those who did not put a time limit on the clock for the game to finish at some point, and still, there isn't an end in sight either.

Skipper, you said something last year which I have quoted you as a result, which I got some "backlash" from some radical TC's, who worships the ground Rauf Denktash walks on. You made a statement claiming, that Denktash was given 30,000 Donums of GC land in the "TRNC (for his "troubles" for establishing the "TRNC, I assume) but you did not believe he had anything as close to that of his own land in the RoC, in order to make the "exchange". The question is, how did you come up with those numbers that Denktash got 30,000 Donums of GC land. Any information will be much appreciated.

I often find myself in a similar situation as you, with your above statement. Ask any one, and they will tell you.

Surely it would be easier for many of these young TC's immigrating to Britain if they just moved a bit south of the Green Line and got jobs in the Republic, rather than heading off to another coutnry for third world lifestyle. And their families would still be able to have regular contact for crying out loud. Ofcourse there is the racism they have to content with but hopefully the RoC will implement measures to curb that as much as possible.

You live in utopia again, what will these yougsters do in the GC south work on building sites or clean your toilets add to this the language barrier and the UK all of a sudden becomes a far better prospect.

Very interesting comments Skipper. I am not going to argue the Cyprus Problem with you, it's been done many times on this forum, but your starting point seems to be that the "TRNC" and its citizens have rights. Turkish Cypriots have rights as human beings but the state in which they live was created illegally, it has no rights. Both sides apply pressure to each other, why should the ROC doing anything to help a regime that, for instance, has "sold" GC property on denies access to Varosha. Any move, such as recognising an administration rather than a state, could be misinterpeted by other States and gradually the "TRNC" could become a legal entity, I think it's a risk the ROC is not prepared to take.
With regard to isolation and quality of governance, I suggest the TCs put their own house in order first before blaming all problems on the ROC. I can't comment on the attitude of Turkish Cypriot youth towards work that is why I quoted from http://www.frankandjoan.com/news/2008/jan.htm but the view that Greek Cypriots don't work in catering and construction is way off the mark. Yes there are many foreign workers in those trades but I believe the majority are still from the local population. Many construction companies will only employ Cypriot labour, some deveolpers even boast that they only employ locals because there is a belief that the work of foreigners is inferior.
Any government of the ROC is in a difficult position, if it does too much to help the TCs it could be seen as giving in to Turkey; that would be political suicide.

And what are you talking about? "Even the most "unethical" countries around the world, are not supporting to lift the isolation". Did you read the ICG report? You know the one you claimed to be "biased"

Furthermore it's YOUR SIDE no one seems to be doing any favours for...it's YOU who should be worried not the other way round mate...it's shocking how you keep trying to scare us while ignoring whats going on on the ground...

Sorry but I'm gonna have to call your bluff. :P But we'll have to wait till after the elections to find out whats likely to happen....

T_C,

You were given an assignment to do few of weeks ago, which was to read two links that I posted for you.

Have you read them yet.??

If you have not, then stop making stupid comments.!!

For god sake do you believe that the south is full of jobs and the wages are sky high? Many GC's also leave the island for work else where. I have got friends that are studing things like gentics or criminal forensics what are they gonna do over here? I might have to leave some day as well, but it doesn't bother me that much. The only jobs that are in abundance at the moment are for building workers, carpenters, electricians and so on ( things to do with the constrution sector )

For God's saker mate ....... stop being a separatist and begin people a person of high caliber of doing God's work and bringing people home. Listen Umit I know the state of Cypriot affairs and despite the brainwashing that goes on by Turkish propagandists who probably pvt message you to put down any Greek Cypriot talking to you I still believe that Cyprus is big enough for all Cypriots and it is up the the government to work together with the international rena to creat jobs bring people together and keep people on the Island.

I have seen another young T_C being brainwashed by propaganda and its like seeing a repeat of the same show here.

Unless you leave your fear and hate behind another generation will pass and people will still suffer. My one and only Greek Cypriot advise to you is start thinking broadly mate.
