How many out of the 27 EU members does that make? How many is many? Can you name more than four? Namely UK, Sweden, Germany and Spain. I have not read any statements by other EU countries in this vein, most express public support for RoC.

Is it any wonder our government is constantly at odds with most of its EU partners and that the distrust and hostility which mark relations between Greek and Turkish Cypriots have been given a big boost in the last five years? Nobody can blame Papadopoulos for being a man of his times and behaving as if we were still living in the 1960s or ’70s. He was never going to adapt to the new era when he was first elected and he is certainly not going to do so now, if he wins, aged 74.

Right now, there is a widespread perception abroad that the responsibility for the impasse in Cyprus rests with the Greek Cypriot side. The other side of this coin is that the Turkish Cypriots are the victims of a policy of isolation by the Papadopoulos government, which enjoys virtually no trust or confidence outside Cyprus

Papadopoulos simply has no credibility internationally. By his strategic mistakes when he had an opportunity to negotiate a federal, bi-zonal and bi-communal settlement he has squandered the advantage of international legitimacy that he inherited from his predecessors, and forfeited the right to claim any superior ability to handle the Cyprus problem file over his opponents. Indeed, he is now a great liability for our side.
