WHY DID YOU IMMIGRATE

Postby Leffette » Fri Feb 01, 2008 6:33 am

Let us discuss why do we immigrate? What is it, that makes us leave our countries give up our culture, families, friends and the endless list goes on..........and move to the unknown thinking the world will change 360 DEGREES to the better?

For some does change to the better, for others does not.

So let us hear your story or opinion!

The first time was forced because of the Turks bombing us.

The second time was to correct the injustice of the first.

For me it was lurve! Met my Cypriot husband 22 yrs ago (omg) and I have lived in Cyprus for 12 yrs. We also lived in Greece for 5 yrs, I was heartbroken when we left Athens as it is the most wonderful place to live and I personally would choose it over Cyprus or the UK anyday (sorry)!

first it was to study,,and a change of culture.more money,.then got engaged to a uk born greek cypriot gal...lived in the UK for over 7 years now....however i am starting to hate the place...the weather,,the commuting to the city...the "unsafe" (in some occasions) environment...dont get me wrong i like england,,but not to work and live it's too much...coming back to cyprus permanently to settle down and hopefully start a better life...

As a family, pushed out of a country because of hate.Went to another country we believed provided security. Finally settled in a part of England very few people see,no crime, beautiful countryside, peace and quiet.

8) then you are very lucky purdey as that is what most decent home grown English people would like in their lives over there, but either cannot afford or cannot find. and maybe thats why so many people are leaving England....

Gotta ask me dad that! Was still in me dads balls in those days

I would say the main factor of people leaving Cyprus is unemployment or the shity wages. ( Nowdays)

In the past there would be other reasons like losing property , not being able to see the future and again unemployment.

Unemployment has always been a big factor.

For me it was seeing all my friends and co-workers being booted out of the door one by one after we got bought out. 100 people to 2 of us in 6 years hurts. Add into that hearing this sort of thing happening everywhere and coupled with the fact I've seen quite a few people now have strokes, miscarriages etc thanks to work stress (and the company asks if they can work from a laptop in hospital...), then I decided to get out. Plus you can take your culture and stick it. Your life is what you make of it and IMHO culture is a tiny thing. Especially in the UK where it is all going to hell. Unless you class yobs and general lack of caring to be a culture these days. Family? Well, I've seen what family can do to each other. No thanks. Plus all the family I care about are here too. Friends? Yep, only thing I miss. But luckily most of them are considering coming here too. Tops.

thinking the world will change 360 DEGREES to the better?
Been a while, but doesn't that just mean spinning around until you face the same way you were in the first place? Hmmm, was that joke? :)

Cheers
