WHY DID YOU IMMIGRATE

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I lived a great part of my Life in another country and ended up in Canada UNWILLINGLY!

I didn't want to leave Cyprus, but to be honest I don't regret leaving it. Not because Cyprus is a bad country (I am very patriot)....The only reason I am happy, is because I have relaxed from the eyes of the small community, the forcing of spending your weekends mostly with extended family, and also the family pressure on their children.

I kind of feel, I found my freedom, and I don't account to anybody, no family no friends.

Having said that, I never stopped missing my family and friends and country, so after 8 years of absence I am visiting this summer!

I will make a post towards June, and see if any of you would like to meet up for coffee. It will be fun I guess, if you only agree!!!!

Left Cyprus in 1961 age 15 on my own. Reason , semi poverty , like most of us who left all those years ago.
I went to the Lanitio Gymnasio for 3 years and it was such a struggle to pay the tuition fees .It was not FREE in 1961 !
Wanted to come to England and study here , plus I heard so many stories about the English girls couldn't wait to find out
Disappointed that neither the pavements were paved in silver or the girls could be enticed into your arms for the price of a cup of tea !!!
Intended to study and return to Cyprus . Alas 47 years later I m still studying !! and still trying to entice a girl in my arms with a bottle of Champers !! Joking . Met my wife in 1963 been together ever since , will return one day circumstances permitting.
I'm here still because my wife receives the best possible treatment in fighting her decease .She has the best in the world looking after her and over the last 6 years or so we have learned so much about what constitutes happiness and I tell you it ain't money , but a good family and more so grand children ! Sound so old and rigid in my views but its all part of growing up , and I m still growing .
Talking about family values , I have discovered that both the G/Cs and the T/Cs share identical values not one iota of difference .

I was not joking for the 360 degrees, but in a way yes it was a joke if you understand what i mean...it was a way to start an interesting discussion why we all left!!!!!

I would say the main factor of people leaving Cyprus is unemployment or the shity wages. ( Nowdays)

In the past there would be other reasons like losing property , not being able to see the future and again unemployment.

Unemployment has always been a big factor.
