What's it like in Paphos

Postby shropshirelad » Thu Jan 31, 2008 10:24 pm

:?: Can anyone tell me what its like in Cyprus please?
We have never been to the island before. We are going at Easter for two weeks and staying at the Kefalos Beach Village in Paphos. I know Cyprus has just changed to Euros but thats about all i know!!
Whats the weather like at that time of year? Where are the best places to eat? Whats the night life like? We have two teenage girls so i hope its fairly lively :)
Basically, if you can tell me anything about Paphos it would be a great help. Thanks...............Steve

It's great..

Hire bikes ... visit the Tombs of the Kings... check out events at the Castle in Paphos port.
Mot of all take a trip to the Akamas ... day excursions to Latsi with the best sea-food restaurants anywhere ... hire a 4WD and then go trekking in the Troodos ... and shop-till-you-drop in Nicosia.

Have fun.... :D

As the English Easter is a month earlier then the Greek one and March is still a cool month, I don't know how many of the closed reataurants etc. will be open by then. Kefalos is a lovely complex and it's in a great position. The beach will be out of the question at that time but if the pool is heated, it sould be OK. For the girls, there is 'bar street' with a few good music and dance places. There will be enough activity though for the 2 weeks you'll be there. If you have a car, then you will not be bored at all.

We had neighbors that went twice a year for the last dozen, back in the UK, and they had two teenage daughters. It sounded like they had no end of amusements just staying in Paphos the whole two weeks.

I think the restaurants there are very lively at night, if nothing else.

You will find that they are re-furbishing the port area at the moment and I do not know if it will be completed by the time you arrive... so that is why I suggest hiring a 4WD then you can got to Akamas, Peyia or to Polis, Pomos and beyond. The sea is spectacular if not swimmable then.

Then there is Panayia ... where we discovered some of the freshest most inspiring mountain-top walks with our dog... and out-of-the-way restaurants with wood-burning stoves and only one thing on the menu ....

I suggest you hire a car after you get here as being a slow season you will be able to bargain for a good deal. If want a nice and easy evening you can always visit the Paphos Amathus Hotel piano bar any Monday, Wednesday or Friday nights and hear me sing. :)

60,000 Brits that have made it their new home can't be that wrong ... let alone the millions that just holiday .

I don't know what the weather is like in the UK at the moment ... but it is as cold here as when I left the UK in early January but just the fact that the sun shines through most of the day, cars are fewer, people are lively but cool, food is delicious (I'm consuming a large bowl of ice-cream by the fire at the moment ... 8) ) ... the whole place just seems like a large playground...
