AKEL and DISY are trying to reconcile over the EOKA struggle

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

AKEL and DISY are trying to reconcile over the EOKA struggle

Postby Alexandros Lordos » Fri Apr 01, 2005 11:42 am

According to Phileleftheros newspaper, the two traditional adversaries - AKEL and DISY - are trying to reconcile their historical perceptions about the EOKA struggle. AKEL - traditionally hostile to EOKA - is toning down its rhetoric this year, while DISY - a traditional supporter of EOKA - is beginning to officially acknowledge that "some mistakes were made during the struggle".

My view on this is that it can all be attributed to next year's parliamentary elections.
AKEL is trying to capitalize on its 'No' vote, by appealing to the EOKA people, running the risk of alienating completely its traditional base (already suspicious of the party's change in direction).
DISY's strategy is far more obvious. They've long broken loose from their hardliner support (the coup de grace was the Anastasiadis Vs. Prodromou-Erotokritou thing) and is pursuing a more moderate attitude, aiming at the centre and perhaps centre-left votes.
On a side note, I've been turning this scenario in my head, that Anastasiadis's ultimate strategic goal is co-operation with AKEL in the 2008 Presidential Elections.

Have you ever voted for AKEL?

I voted for AKEL in last parliamentary elections, and a part of my family "traditionally" votes for this party. I, and my family would be alienated if AKEL supported "yes" for the Annan plan. According to polls the vast majority of AKEL supporters rejected the Annan plan before AKEL finally decided to reject it.

Therefore AKEL would alienate a far bigger part of its voters if it had supported the "yes" vote, and it will loose half of its power if it makes any alliance with DISY (this happened before, and AKEL became 3rd party in power during that time).

They've long broken loose from their hardliner support (the coup de grace was the Anastasiadis Vs. Prodromou-Erotokritou thing)

So what you call "hardliners" are Eroticritou and Prodromou, who were some of the younger party leaders? And you call them in this way because they supported "no"???? So according to you the 76% of GCs are hardliners because they didn't accept the unfair partition plan?

It would be better if Anastasiades instead of throwing out some of the younger party leaders who could challenge him for the presidency of the party, was throwing out all those EOKA-B members and the other traitors who for once again are doing the dirty job for the Americans.

Piratis, stop misinforming. All EOKA B people, inside DISI and outside DISI voted against the solution. They remain staunch nationalists and hugely racist. Also, the "Struggler Association" if this is what its called, had called for all its members (ex EOKA people) to vote against the solution. Regarding the conciliatory move by DISI, it is worth noting that the Organisation of the EOKA members has already rejected the call to examine each case separately for all leftists murdered by the EOKA killing fiends. These people were at the forefront of the no campaign and remain unrepentent ultra right wingers. They are the Le Pen of Cyprus and many of them find refuge in Papadopoulos's party which houses many fascist-like persons, such as Pitokopitis (Le Pit), Koulias, who made a fascist scene in Parliament the other day, Kleanthous and Aggelides.

What I said is that EOKA B members are still in DISY, and they are not the ones who left from this party. Or do you suggest that Erotocritou and Prodromou that were 15 years old at that time were EOKA B members?

DISY has the traitors of EOKA B and now they once again have the new traitors like Anastasiades. The destiny of far right is to always produce such kind of people that do not respect democracy and always do things that hurt Cyprus as a whole.

I think its politically moronic to accuse Anastasiades of following a far right policy at this moment. Both Prodromou and Erotokritou were EOKA B sympathisers despite being yound at the time. So was Lazaros Mavros the self proclaimed super patriot of today.

What Anastasiades follows is what Americans tell him.

Even if you were spot on, is that a bad thing to do? Should we be the once to restore the order? To deal a blow to the new order? Grow up Piratis, stop imagining conspirators everywhwere. The conspiracy theory is used basically by morons in their endeavour to understand and translate a complex world.

The question is: are you a morron by nature, or you are paid to act like one? Anastasiades is the second.
