How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

You can call it blackmail or you can call it negotiating, neither has worked or brought a solution. So the city remains empty, and just decays more and more. :(

The way it stands now suits the Paphians very well as they are scared shit that they will lose business if Famagusta ever opens up again. This I disagree with.

I wouldn't know about it suiting Paphians, but I guess loads of people from both sides are content with leaving things the way they are.

The GCs said NO to the return of Maraş, do you think the EU will actually do anything? I dont think so.

If the north was governed by true Cypriots they would give back Famagusta to alleviate the plight of 40 000 people who found themselves homeless. It would have decreased the suffering of a large percentage of Cypriots after 1974 while still retaining ALL the territory occupied to be used as a bargaining chip.

Treating everything as a bargaining chip is pure bazaar mentality and well represented in some of the comments above.

One way or another Famagusta will be returned because it is a golden goose. The GCs will want to rebuild it, the GC banks will provide the finance and TCs will reap the golden eggs.

Concrete buildings left unattended and exposed to sea air are structurally useless after 30 years. The whole town will have to be demolished and rebuilt. It is a huge civil engineering project and the majority of the building contractors and workmen will be TCs, the south does not have the manpower to rebuild the place alone.

Now figure the finances- 40 000 population equals 10 000 dwellings= 1000 000 square meters of housing, at 2000 Euros per meter equals 2 BILLION for housing alone, now add hotels, roads, infrastructure and you come to some 5 BILLION plus. The biggest project in the history of Cyprus. Once the business of selling stolen GC land and rinky dink "holiday villas" grinds to a halt the contractors of the north will see the light.

Zan dont worry,

they will find jobs at GC expense in Famagusta. The golden goose will lay enough eggs for everyone.

I think it was last last year, a TC court in Famagusta ruled that over 99% of the land of Maraş actualy belonged to a TC vakıf. Does anyone remember the details on that? As far as I remember they proved that the land had been unlawfully taken from them during the time the British had control of the Turkish Evkaf foundation.

This is a article by Prof. Ata Atun about "Turkish Evkaf" property in Cyprus. It's in Turkish for those who want to read.
