Are we really Europeans?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Are we really Europeans?

Postby Leffette » Thu Jan 31, 2008 4:29 am

We can say with confidence that we joined Europe.
We can say with confidence our currency is Euro

Can we say with confidence that we are Europeans?

Whether your answer is YES or NO, justify why?

Yep, I am European.

You need to think of Europe like a blanket. If you country fails it (if goes to plan) will catch you before you hit the ground. Consider your country has some ancient policies which clearly need removing. These policies are stopping you from doing what you want, you can contact the EU and inform them. It is used to bypass your own countries policies. You can travel and live anywhere in Europe without a problem of VISAS. It's about expanding your choices.

Being European can be perceived as a positive thing. Cyprus is not the cheapest place in the world and normally globalization brings prices down, I would not be surprised if this happened in Cyprus. I am more for European policies, including anti-smoking, creating employment and regenerating poor areas. It's a more advanced government, therefore it has the power to fix things your country fails to do.

The Cypriot government is all about supporting your political party, even if that political party stands for nothing. This is not the case with Europe.

For Me Yes definately, it for me is about being equal to the next person. The rules apply to everyone, and cannot be selected to what ever suits you. I am British but I have the same rights as a French person.

Did you have to register and prove you can afford to live where you are ( presumably France) ~ did you have to apply for a aliens card which separates you from the locals as you are classed as an immigrant and eventually when the authority feel like it ~( up to two years wait) be issued with a residents permit ~ did you have to take out private medical insurance before you are given your aliens card to enable you to stay for more than three months ~ do you have to provide mountains of paperwork including bank statements, school reports and jump backwards through hoops etc before you can get your car registered ( eventually ) locally without having to pay thousands in registration fee's

No ~ well everything isn't equal in the EU is it

Not having a go at you cheshire cat but the system of equality in the EU which stinks

Bill ~ who's not quite grasped the concept of a border less union with free passage of tax paid goods.

Bill, If you are refering to Cyprus, it has been in for all of 5 miniutes, France was a founder member. If you have a chirp with the authorities in Cyprus have a go at them. If you moved to France you would be treated the same as a French person.

I do not understand your gripe with France or me.

Bill,
I wouldn't worry If I were you, English Cypriots that come back to live may get their ID card easier but it still say's they are British.
My mother-in- law who was born here kept her British passport in 1960 was living in the Uk, came back to live permenently in the early 80's is still classed as a foreigner her ID states she is British.
I came a year ago, & found out that people that come to live in one village from another even if they have lived in cyprus all their lives are classed as foreigners.
My husband was told by his boss when he got his job " I've given you a chance after all you are an englesokypraios" made me laugh he lived in Canada in the passed!!!!!
I think you should give them a chance this is all new to them they are being swamped by foreigners, it is happening very quickly

Eleni
(engelesa/englesa married to a englesokypraios)but deep down just another human being.
