'd be careful of how you'd characterise an entire ethnic group Miltiades. I lived in Oman for 9 years and our so called civilisation here (gc or tc) is put to shame by Arabs. Not every arab is a terrorist just like not every cypriot is racist.

Here I can say bravo DT..... :D

I do understand how Miltiades feels at times though...It must be hard to see a bearded man on darker skin and not think of terrorists in the UK.....Since starting on this forum two years ago I now find myself cringing everytime I see a GC or hear them talk...Thank heavens that my GC friend comes to see me often these days and reminds me of who I really am......That reminds me......I have not heard my parents speak greek for a long time now...I will have to make sure my GC friend is around next time they are at my house so I can hear them talking together. I never want to hate a people like Miltiades does..I never have done before.

No one said anything about hating Arabs , I was merely stating a fact , that the Cypriots , as someone said , are Not Arabs , furthermore more Not all Arabs are terrorists apart from the father of them all Osama and mostly every terrorist organization in the world.
Let me also remind our friend DT that yesterday in Sri Lanka a suicide bomber , a woman , blew her self up on a bus killing and maiming innocent citizens. Do I hate Sri Lankans , or Am I a racist by condemning such barbaric actions ? Do I state that all Sri Lancans are terrorists ?
The same for the Arab world.

So telling us that the whole nation is looking to the west for inspiration for civilisation is not condemning one and all.....I will not remind you about what is going on in our streets on a day to dat basis....

miltiades, if one allows oneself (as Prince Charles would say) the freedom and ability to adopt the perceptions of others, it becomes quite easy to imagine how the peoples of other nations view the Western powers when they are subjected to violence and aggression.

It is also quite fair if those who are oppressed consider their oppressors to be 'Terrorists' since they do invoke terror upon them, a classic example being the 'Shock and Awe' attack upon the innocent nation of Iraq.

Using YOUR logic (miltiades) and applying your fondness to extract small comments in order to illustate a point (which I do here).

Since Osama bin Laden, his family and business associates, were very well received in the USA for a considerable period (and partly still are).

Since (as you have indicated) Osama bin Laden is the 'Father of all Terrorism'.

Do you think it might be possible for Osama bin Laden to have influenced his host nation to such an extent that they have adopted his principles ?.

If you can accept the possibility that such is the case, then according to your logic, Americans become Arabs.

Strangely enough, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense.

Having never met the chap and in keeping with the basic tenets of Islam, I, who have scant knowledge of either him or his actions/motives, am not qualified to make such assessments of his personal beliefs.

I think such matters are better left to those who have a better understanding of him than I.

May I enquire as to how you have arrived at such a conclusion ?.

Incidentally, I did pm you at one point, did you receive it ?.
