The flag of the Republic of Cyprus.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Rafaella, there was a country called the 'Cypriot Republic' or 'Republic of Cyprus',not the 'Cyprus Republic'.One day, there will be a Federal Republic of Cyprus.

If the Tcs or Tr had a problem with the Gr national anthem why they didn't object during Zurich talks. They accepted the flag and the anthem to represent Cyprus Republic.

I must have missed this. The Constitution mentions the flag, which was to be of neutral design and colour, chosen jointly by the President and the Vice-President of the Republic. This was done.

There is no mention of a national anthem. GCs used the Greek anthem, TCs used the Turkish anthem. RoC and TRNC still do.

The Annan Plan made provision for a neutral anthem without words, presumably so that no one had to choose between Turkish words and Greek words.

Observer,Cyprus needs to have its own national anthem that reflects Cyprus,& that can be sung in all 3 languages.

What do you think?

Article 3 of the Constitution says "The official languages of the Republic are Greek and Turkish" so perhaps just 2 languages. But a catchy tune without words that I can hum in the shower and on more formal occasions would be fine too.

Zan,there is a similar problem with the Spanish national anthem. They're trying to come up with some suitable words. What was chosen peeved off a lot of people, because the words evoked a very negative message.

Yes I'll agree in a ideal Cyprus two languages but you have forgotten that Adia still thinks Cyprus is a British colony  .

Observer,English is also an official language in Cyprus,as not many Greek Cypriots speek Turkish Cypriot,& not many Turkish Cypriots speek Greek Cypriot,so they speak to each other in English.

English is a widely used language in Cyprus, but it is not an official language unless the Constitution has been changed while I wasn't looking.
