LENA wrote::D Bubbles mou not everyone is coming back for the elections. For the students the political parties pay the whole ticket for them to come back in Cyprus and vote...it is something that they do to get as many votes as they can. If you you are abroad you have the right not to vote but if you are in Cyprus you have to have a serious reason not to. It is compulsory if you are Cypriot to vote. So if you are abroad you can say that my job did not let me or did not have the money or whatever so you can get away with it. Its the same for the students if they cannot because of their studies nobody will force them. But since they can and they get a free ticket why not? This is the first year that it is for free the ticket as far as I know....few years ago they just pay part of it

From what I know in UK you can vote if you want...and most of the people dont give a s*t bout it. Am I right?

Did that answer your question Bubbles mou?

Cheers Lena mou, much appreciated. If someone else paid for me to go home, I would too, definitely!! Do they check that you have actually voted too? Is it only Cypriots who can vote or is it anyone?

Alas, people and the polling booths do not seem to mix back home. We have a very lazy attitude where voting is concerned, though I am not sure as to why? :? I always used to vote - may have missed one or two local elections but that was about it! Sad state of affairs is all I can say.

No they cannot check that. Votes are not public. If you dont tell nobody will know what you voted. I am not sure who is allowed to vote or not but I think only Cypriots....Cypriot citizens. So that mean if you are British but live in Cyprus for 3 years you are not allowed.

Efharisto gori mou. Did not think I could vote - just as well really as I do not understand enough Greek to understand their politics. Hell! What has the language barrier got to do with it? - could never understand the politicians back home either!

Now you sound like my husband ...

I amble through life collecting sensual stimuli which find a place somewhere in the empty expanses of my head...... it spoils the memory to capture it on film.

However, we did buy a new all-talking, all-singing, all-dancing camera/printer etc last week (to replace the one my empty head left back in the UK) ... so when I get reading the manual, I may start snapping away as the sights around here (as I am sure elsewhere) are worth sharing.

And thank you, you've just reminded me, my mobile has camera/video ....... but I never seem to have it on me when I disappear for walks ... :?

The turtle was taken away by the man who delivered some stuff for us from Nicosia ... He said his father dries them out in the sun and polishes up the shells. :D ... so some everlasting memoir of the life of the turtle ... :D

Speaking of snow, I don't know if people are following the world news regarding China right now. They are in the middle of their worst snowstorm in 50 years. 500,000 people were just stranded at one city's train station, and they were mostly migrant workers returning to their families in the country's poor interior. It's a terrible mess, and more snow is coming.
