As Sotos said it is a National Day but not that simple for the Education but for the Treis Ierarhes. Its more like a religious day. Those 3 saints (Megas Basileios, Iwannis o Chrisostomos and Grigorios o Theologos) are celebrating together every year at 30th of January. We celebrate it as you heard with the schools, teachers and students to honor them for what they offer to the education apart from their actions as prelates (=ierarxes).

Thanks for that Lena mou. Maybe tthis should be explanied to the children to avoid confusion! :? Better still, make it a public holiday :D

Bubbles x 8)

It is very weird...because at schools we explain what we celebrate that day and we go through their lives and actions. We used to do some small celebrating events with poems and songs at school too...i am not sure if it still the case. Now you mention it I will ask my brother what did he learn about it at school. :?

Is this a Cypriot holiday? If so, you have too many and you celebrate them with such joy. You are starting to remind me of Indians (difference is that Cypriots discovered the soap  ) ... yaap, they are ready to get happy for anything.
That looks sick to me. 8)

So we have another one who live in Cyprus and still hates our way of living?

Tell me something why is so wrong to honor someone....at list we dont celebrate everything with beer. Lets say we know how to be thankful for what we have and thank and honor the people who gave us those things. Also its part of our religion do you have problem with that too?

I am not living here because I am so in love with your country, so, you should calm down.
Do you have any problems with the truth?
If you don't celebrate everything with beer that makes you superior? Nice thinking.

Get back to school and learn some english first, before posting some more nice impressions. 8)

Do I detect 'tit for tat'?

May I ask if you personally know all your sons teachers? Did your parents know your teachers when you were at school?
We all know that education is not just in the classroom, but thank you for youri'insight'

 You really should think before you write such generalised and rubbish statements.

Take a leaf out of Lena' book gori - she had the decency to inform me the importance and relevance of today. You - well, it appears 'any excuse to slag off the British'.......................................

Now now, ladies, lets not get into that .

Was a simple question which got a straight answer. Taught me something too.

Lets keep the battles for other juicier threads shall we .

Although I wouldn't mind seeing you two fighting it out in a mud bath with T- shirts on

Sega my dear I know you are Sega and not Bubbles....but the question came from Bubbles and i thought she heard that in Greek and translate it to English to understand it. Anyway i was only trying to explain her what that day is all about which has nothing to do with the language anyway.
