I believe the hours they work is not the problem, the problem is the second or third job. If they were to stick to the hours allocated (which some do), each employees productivity would probably be at maximum output. Longer hours is not the answer. An employee can only work a limited time at full efficiency. Many private sector companies need to realise this and adapt.

The only thing I can fault the public sector on is it's inability to adapt to the Internet and use it to benefit it's throughput.

You have so many highly qualified young Cypriots in Cyprus with no work,or working in the service industry. Why are these people not in Goverment jobs, they are more than able to deal with current technology, and move Cyprus on more quickly.

Because although they might have the qualifications they don't have the right relatives

We have already established that the government job is the best place for any employee and there is not a government job for every person, after all were not suppose to be a communist nation.

What happens is that the jobs are given out internally. This means that say my farther has a big role to play in the operation of Cyprus Airways (which he does not). Cyprus Airways is not 100% government, it is half government and half private shareholders. Otherwise known in Greek as imigratiki, or a semi-government company if you like.

Taking into account that my dad has a large role to play in this company, and also recognising that these types of jobs are the best in Cyprus, my farther will no doubt put a good word in for me. Who has the best word given internally will also depend ultimately on who gets the job.

University degrees, masters and so forth play a tiny role in acquiring a government position. Most government jobs just need the applicant to have completed school (or likeo). The main government positions that have university degrees as requirements are doctors, teachers, accountants and lawyers. Most government positions do not require a university degree.

Cyprus's government is not run by it's youth. In fact all the people running for presidency this year are old enough to retire. What are the chances that these people would move with the Internet, fairly slim.

Not necessarily, like I said

It can go either way. It's never a guarantee. Most government positions also require the person to sit an internal examination. If your going in for an IT job, you are likely to sit an IT competency test. This examination needs to be passed before the your relative can put in the good word. It also greatly depends on which political party your for, which can help you in the acquisition of a job placement. If your a right-wing, and the right-wings win the election, then your government job placement might be made easier, but nothing is certain.

You can score 100% in the exam have a friend/relative in the position and still get nothing. There are many factors involved, most of which are unfair.
