I might say I really don't care, I do my shopping on Fridays. In one hour I'm done. 8)

Cyprus is not full capitalist country. We are in EU since 2004 we didn't just join. So don't expect the workers to give up their rights any time soon ;)

So right, just give them another 30 years or so to catch up!!

Uncontrolled capitalism is not what we want for our country.

Not asking for that - but if you want your country and economy to flourish you have to get with the times.............

Can anyone explain me what this thread is all about? What is the problem with the working hours in Cyprus?

Although the shops may be open in the afternoon in the UK, the assistants are as dopey as any other time of the day and you cannot help wondering that they should have been home napping to get over the previous night's over -drinking sessions.

The hours that the Cypriot's seem to be open for are at least worthwhile, the people seem fully corpus????? mentis and the job gets done.

Quality not quantity is the key ....

Don't you see? 'The dopey assistants' as you call them could well be your fellow countrymen/women!!

Shops are shut for too long over lunch and then they do not always adhere to the specified opening times. So annoying :x :x

I think it’s great… you know when the shops are open and when they close…

I just whizzed into Pafos, dumped the car outside two shops that I needed to visit (no nightmare trying to get into/out of car parks, etc.) got my stuff and zoomed back… what more could you want?

Only the big capitalists can flourish in that way. All the others will then have to be their employees! I also like shops open 24/7 but you should not see your convenience only. If you do not support those small shop owners then when the big capitalist will come to get you nobody will support you.

Sotos you are 100% correct, but those big Capitalists are knocking on the door. They want the money that the Government of Cyprus say the people have.
In the end they genrally get what they want and things change, not always for the best.

You will get what you want soon enough .

It's all to do with greed and Cypriots are no different to any other nationality in grabbing the opportunity when they see it .

24 / 7 shopping in Cyprus ~ it's coming ~ very soon.

I think people believe that the working hours will change due to Cyprus's accession into the European Union.

I welcome change however, I am quite happy with the working hours here, particularly for the governments sector. Maybe the working hours will change, but it would not be due to Europe, but rather due to privatization.

I don't think Europe can force the working hours for one person to change, it might be able to affect the overall companies working hours.

Did I say I liked 24 hour shopping? What does annoy me is the way shopkeepers advertise their opening hours and then do not adhere to them! That my friend is just sheer ignorance!!
No need for the offensive language either!! :x
