Reminds me of a few years ago when I was offered voluntary redundancy from my company.
It went as far as attending a company seminar on redundancy plus making arrangements with my bank to invest the money and approaching the American Academy to get my youngest son in there once I'd moved to Cyprus.
I was 4 weeks off leaving and I received a letter of apology stating they had made a mistake and the offer of voluntary severance was withdrawn as I was graded as essential staff and would not be released .
I got the hump big time ~ I spent the next five and a half months doing absolutely nothing except attend the rare emergencies such as train derailments and loss or potential loss of life as a incident / accident investigator ~ the rest of the time I spent rebuilding and restoring a motorbike and building computers for family and friends .
I would dutifully answer the phone every time it rang with the words " WHAT DO YOU WANT" ~ and then say "BOLLOCKS" and hang up.
To say I was pissed off with the company was a understatement ~ anger management was used very effectively
I eventually started working again more out of boredom than anything else ~ during that period nobody said a dicky bird to me and I was left alone in my office ~ usually with a stripped down computer or motor bike engine on the desk.
My boss popped in my office to see me every so often to check I was still alive and to have a chat and a coffee ~ I ended up making him a computer and servicing his car .
It was totally unreal to go to work and do absolutely nothing except mess around with my hobbies ~ I often regret deciding to work again but I guess that I couldn't have made it last much longer and I was getting pretty bored as well.
It came as quite a surprise that I was promoted after I started being an active member of the company again
Bill ~~~ now unemployed ( I left ) and probably unemployable
