Yeah ... I had started to suspect that .... and it is really badly written.

I have a good mind to write to the editor and point out their fallacies ... but then again "The Sun" in the UK was of a similar standing and I justly never associated with anyone that bought it.

I wish we could stop them using the word "Cyprus" in their title as that lends them a degree of respectability that I now know they do not deserve ...

Can the RoC sue for defamation ... :? :?

From what I know the journalists are Cypriot. To be fair they produce a decent paper with limited resourses, their brief is pro Cypriot.
Re:The Sun and alike we agree on that, but I would not be so arrogant to say I would not associate with any of it's readers.

Several months reading posts on this site i see, high jacking of threads, arrogance & Racism... and the same usernames pop up every time!

Shame that some use every thread to have a pop at the brits, turks, grammer, spelling and so on......

Dont bite the hand that feeds you!

The fact still remains that after all the surveys the CTO have done and no matter how many times they have manipulated the results .

Tourist numbers and tourist generated income was down in 2007 .

You only had to open your eyes and talk to people in the tourist industry to confirm this .

Now 2008 could be a real eye opener and potential disaster due to the Euro ~ I wonder how the CTO will explain that away.

To be fair,I think it is a game, the majority of their posts are there just to stimulate argument. These people are always there to start conflict but are the first to run and hide when the shit hits the fan.

I think you are wrong Bill. The closing down and turning hotels into apartments in Limassol is no sign of a downturn in tourism.Ask the waiters at the Famagusta Yacht club why they have had their hours cut,or Petros in the market square, they all say the same we are just having a rest.
In truth they are panicking, they have seen businesses that they have worked hard for going down the pan.Local and national politicians deny this, but they would, why would they want to be associated with the downfall of Cyprus.

For information- when we started visiting Cyprus in 2003 we could get a 2 week self catering holiday for £200 each. Last October the best we could do was £400 each. I was starting to think about looking elsewhere (although hoping I wouldn't have to) but I've just managed to get something in April for £300 each - at our favourite hotel at our favourite resort.

So my message would be that prices may have been starting to put people off, and maybe the tour operators are acknowledging the fact that you can't double prices in 4 years and expect people to just accept it.

Worth stating that many people in Britain are struggling financially at the moment, and the first thing that gets cancelled when times are hard is holidays.

regards,

Richie

tourists are down again

Postby Bucksboy » Wed Jan 30, 2008 4:01 pm

Can you wonder at it why tourist numbers are down. Why would anyone want to come here and be ripped off time & time again.
I had a lunch at a supposedly 4 star hotel in Coral Bay Paphos on Sunday where they served up tinned carrots, tinned peas and instant mash potato and the wine tasted as though it was watered down. This was supposed to be part of a sunday lunch!
Let the hoteliers suffer I say and to hell with Cyprus. It needs to get it's act together big time.
