The Turkish Cypriot Flag

Postby utu » Tue Jan 29, 2008 5:40 am

I was replying to a post regarding the T/C flag, and after finishing the reply, I thought I'd start this thread.

There is no doubt that the flag used by the Turkish Cypriots is not regarded fondly by those of you who reside south of the Green Line. The flag has been derided as illegal by the RoCy government, but this does not make much sense as this flag does represent something.

Now don't get me wrong. I don't recognize it as a national flag. The country it claims to represent is regarded internationally as illegal. However, that flag DOES represent the Turkish Cypriot COMMUNITY, and as such, has a status.

Communities and tribes all over the world have their own unique flags, banners, and symbols. With this in mind, the Turkish Cypriot flag is not unique. So why does not the RoCy allow the Turkish Cypriots to use the flag as a community banner, if not a national flag?

Hello utu

I just joined the forum, and I was asking the other day if there are any Cypriots who live in British Columbia, at least I found the first one.

Cheers, British Columbia here as well.

As of the flags?!?!?!??!?!? hmmmm you and I are posting the Canadian one!
Just teasing!

There is no such thing as "Turkish Cypriot flag". The Turkish Cypriot community does not have a flag.

The flag of the so called "trnc" claims to be a flag of a state, not a flag of a community, and this pseudo state is called "Turkish republic of northern Cyprus" (not "Turkish Cypriot") and it claims to have as "citizens" 10s of thousands of Turkish Settlers.

So is that flag a Turkish Cypriot community flag? NO

Does that flag represent a specific territory? Again NO. Since the territory it is illegaly created on belongs by 80% to Greek Cypriots, and that flag defintely does not represent the owners of that territory.

Does it represent a country? NO, since there is only one country in the island of Cyprus, that is Republic of Cyprus.

The only thing that flag represents is the illegal occupation of the north part of Cyprus by the turkish troops.

If the TCs want to create a Turkish community flag, no problem. But they can not claim to have another country on this island, nor they can claim that this flag can represent a specific part of Cyprus since all parts of Cyprus have a Greek Cypriot majority and belong to Republic of Cyprus.

All of hose things have been done and you cannot do a bloody thing about it and that is the bottom line....

As for the flag...How the hell can a flag be illegal....This is just another part of the embargoes...If he flag was illegal then it would not be flying outside the Consulate/Representatives offices in the UK....The flag can be flown anywhere in the world but this forum will not allow it.

Another round of bullshit from the Turk haters.

utu, please refrain from calling the flag illegal.

If I want a personal flag, I can design it, make it, and fly it – nothing illegal there,

If I and a group of friends want a group flag, we can design it, make it and fly it – nothing illegal there.

If we call it the flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus it’s suddenly illegal. Do you really think that is logic?

For the flag to be illegal there must be a law making it illegal. Find me such a law in any country other than RoC.

People have to question their moral values when choosing to be represented by such a symbol.

It is no different to the swastika once it was adopted by the Nazis ... it represents deplorable conduct and abuse of Human rights.

Same goes for this symbol of the occupation of the property of the Cypriots and the establishment of an illegal Turkish Base on the Island / EU territory.

Piratis if you don't like the flag so much why don't you do something to get rid of the one on the mountain? Why not just lauch a few missiles and blow it up? All talk no action.

Phoenix. You seem to have so much hate that I really wonder if you are for real, or if your comments are just intended to wind people up.

And then comes in Phoenix with her preposterous logic as usual comparing the TRNC flag with the Nazi symbol, bloody ironic don't you think, since the only people who have attempted a Nazi-like genocide on this island seem to have the "legal" flag and are actually in the EU

I, as a Cypriot, have no affiliation with the flag of the so called "RoC" who claims to own the island when they clearly don't, in fact the reality is that they own this entire island as much as the Greeks own Istanbul, and that is the bottom line.

I took my son to Nicosia for the first time in his young life last Saturday. I did not prepare him for what was about to meet our eyes as we approached our Capital City ....

His reaction will stay with me forever, and I will not go into my feelings associated with that now.

But as our resident observer:

What reason would you offer for the welcome on the hillside that met us ...
