If we look at the history of both nations I think it becomes obvious which has balls and which dont.

No I don't own a property in the north and neither did I fight the EOKA terrorists as national service ended in Britain some years before I would have been old enough to be conscripted. I lived in Limassol in the early 60s and left the island (then aged nearly 15) a matter of weeks before the murders of TCs started and which culminated in their liberation in 1974. My father was English (he was not in the forces in Cyprus) but was in the RAF in WW11 and was awarded the BEM and was Mentioned in Despatches on two occasions. My mother was born in Belgium. I have nothing to hide. I don't hate anybody.

During my few years in Cyprus I had no interest in politics and had no idea of the trouble that was brewing although I do remember a Briton being murdered in Ledra Street in 1961. He was shot in the back in a cowardly manner but it did not affect me then or now because I know these things happen.

I have kept very much in touch over the years with what has been happening on the island and have had holidays on both sides. What I find hard to understand is the apparent inability of numerous GCs to accept that it was the actions of their community that created the situation and they are culpable. I do wonder if many really know what their forebears did.

I am aware that historically Turks were barbarians and that many of the Turkish soldiers in 1974 were backward and committed atrocities. Being backward was a frequent denominator in membership of EOKA also. I am also aware that GCs started attrocities more that 11 years before the Turkish landings. Neither are to be condoned.

It would be good to see the Cyprus problem resolved albeit that it pales into insignificance in the world order of problems. If it is not I won't lose any sleep but it will be sad and I don't believe history will look at you favourably.

What I expect from you, however, is insults (using profanities if you sink as low as Phoenix and Piritas for who there seems to be no hope) for that part of this posting which does not suit you. What would be nice is for you to realise that you need to compromise, realise that the TCs have their views too and negotiate a settlement to include the withdrawal of Turkish troops. It would be a folly to make this a prerequisite.
It would nice to see the problem solved.

Turning to my Jewish friend one could say that his rights continue to violated as his family have lost property and possessions to the Germans but more importantly the majority of his family both immediate and extended family were exterminated.

At least my reason for hating the Turks comes from first hand experience ... no one had to indoctrinate me to hate the Turks... I knew a Cyprus, whole, true and beautiful ...... and then I knew evil and bombings from the foreigners ... the Turks ... and then I knew my country in the divided state it is in now.

T.C.s, if so please pray for Piratis and Phoenix as they are blatently so consumed by hate. Such hate eats away at the heart of the hater and leads to misery in the hater's life while the hated is unaffected.

Would a physician pray that his patient learn to accept a bacterial disease that has infected him?...... or would he give him antibiotics to remove the cause of the disease?

The Turks have caused the problem / disease. So do not pray that I learn to accept them ... eliminate the cause.

But prevention is better than cure ...

Fight the cause, not just the symptoms.
