Now, that wasn't so hard, was it Zan ??...Thanks...I got it now.

So,I am taking it for granted that they have removed the age 49 business,as long as you have not returned permanently, and do not stay for longer than 90 days in any one year....

What I want to know now is, do we need to go to Asal Sube and get a piece of paper saying we can leave???? This is what I had to do last time (before I turned 49),and believe me it took me 3 full days (out of my 10 in the trnc) to get the bloody thing....I still have it but is it valid now under this new law???? There are a lot of traps for the unwary,Kikapu...Tread carefully, mate.

Don't worry...he ain't goin any where near the place......

As for your other point......I am only guessing here and am sure someone will correct if needed but your passport is stamped and if your exit is within 90 days it will be fine.

I am not sure you are right,Zan...How will they know if you have not exceeded your 90 days in one year...??? I think you will need to apply to Asal Sube, prove to them that you have not exceeded your 90 days allocation, and get a piece of paper allowing you to leave...They won't go looking through your passport for entry/exit dates and add them up,not while they can make you run around getting pieces of paper from the departments of immigration, police, internal affairs, what have you...I was soooo pissed off last time,I can't begin to tell you...There is always the slight possibility that they have changed that bloody system, and it is as simple as what you say. But I won't bet my holiday on it...Please let me know if you find out anything concrete, and I will do the same for you... :?

I do believe that once you have that 'piece of paper' from Asal Sube that says you can come & go as you please as long as you don't exceed the 90 day rule, then all is fine. Having said that, my paper says I am allowed 60 days and when I asked to have this updated I was told 'no, you can only have 60 days' (not that I can stay that long anyway !)

But I can understand the uncertainty, as the people at Asal Sube really do mix & match their answers. When I was there last year getting my 18year olds papers I asked about the 49yr rule and what happens once I reach that age - I was bluntly told I would have to serve or pay. But then loads of family members say that once you are over 49 you are ok and 'free' !

It really can be confusing, especially for those like us hitting 49 (or have have left it behind) - if they can clear this all up once and for all, then great.

Oh, and Birkibrisli - on the 'totting up days front' - its all computerised so no need for fingers !

Not according to the new law...men over the age of 49 will be sent to military hospital for a checkup and if they are seen physically fit they will be have to pay the £3000...The only chance of not paying this sum is if they are found physically unfit to serve,in which case they will be given a "askerlige elverissizdir" document..
Its common knowledge that the doctors have been instructed to give a pass to everyone unless they have very serious health issues they can prove...

the article in the following link was published in Afrika newspaper not so long ago and it clearly summarizes the situation

Thanks 74LB and iceman for that info...

But doesn't this upcoming law deal with this issue??? doesn't it allow people over the age of 49 free access for 90 days every year, TILL ONE RETURNS PERMANENTLY?????? I wish they would spell things out clearly, not in this gobbledygook language...Where is Halil when we need him????? :) :)
