AMENDMENT BILL ON MILITARY SERVICE WAS SENT TO PRIME MINISTRY

A new amendment bill on military service – which aims to eliminate the problems being faced in the implementation of the Military Service Law – has been sent to the Prime Ministry by the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Command.

The bill will bring important changes to the Law if approved.
If approved, the bill will enable Turkish Cypriots who reside abroad – to postpone their military service until they return to the TRNC with the aim of resettling in the country.
According to information posted on the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces’ website, the new bill includes other important changes as well.
The bill grants the right to those who became TRNC citizens after reaching the age of 49, to apply for a special status.

The bill – which will minimize the loss of rights, aims to prevent the TRNC citizens – who have already served compulsory military service in another country – from being called up for military service in the TRNC.

I would never under estimate any soldier trained by the Turkish army.

Kikapu

I think zan is right about the 49 barrier, under the bill which is due to pass you will be able to finish your military obligations by paying 3000 GBP. You will have to apply within 3 months, so keep a close eye on it.

That is the case now already Umit07. I want to see what new offers they would be offering, specially to those over the age of 49.

I wrote to a leading politician 2 years ago, asking them to do away with the whole military requirements to anyone who does not want to live in the "TRNC" to encourage more TC's living abroad, and their children who are also born abroad to visit the North as tourist, which would add a boost to the economy. I guess this is the first step, but it seems to apply only to those who have been AWOL's over 7 years. It makes little sense to me why they are concentrating to only this group of people. It tells me perhaps that TC's are leaving the "TRNC" to avoid doing their military services in droves and do not wish to return back. If they do take up the amnesty offer, there is a good chance they are going to have to pay substantial amount in money to avoid persecution assuming those who are now in AWOL will trust the system in the "TRNC" who has branded them as "AWOL's" will let them be, once they return back to the "TRNC".

Whos to stop them just chucking you inside, giving you a good beating do doing the runner in the first place and then force you to do the service?

No No, kiks just stay where you are mate, you would be much safer. Turkey does as she please, what court will you run to when it doesn't work out, she recognises no courts, human right judgements, international laws so what gives.

ALL TC's BEWARE, THIS IS A TRAP TO MAKE YOU GO BACK. DON'T TRUST THEM, ITS NOT THE TC'S MAKING THESE RULES ITS TURKEY AND THEY DON'T GIVE JACK S--- ABOUT YOU. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

As you know if you are in AWOL status ( Asker Kaçağı), the second you set foot in the TRNC you are arrested and sent to complete your military service.

This was the argument I was making what was told to my brother in London at the "TRNC" office before I left for Cyprus last year, and VP and Zan were insisting that I was not telling the truth. VP even said he went and asked "ASAL SUBE" directly. That was also my point in not going to the "TRNC". One could not trust who was giving you the correct information and who was not. It was going to be a "crap-shoot". I played it safe.

Here are some exchanges from "Kikapu's time in Cyprus" thread.

Kikapu wrote:When a De Facto state officials of the "TRNC" tell my brother, that if I enter the "TRNC", I could be forced to do a Military Service right there and then, held against my will, depending who is on duty at the "ASAL SUBE", it was an easy decision to make, as not to go there. When you and VP make comments regarding the RoC, all I have to do, is look at the source and the reasons, as to why. The worst that could have happened to me in the RoC, was to be humiliated by the GC's, because I'm a TC. I could have dealt with that, but to be kept against my will, was not a choice. I went trough that already, when I was 8 years old, in 1963.

I have a large portion of my family living in the UK they all visit without any problems, why are you so special? Show you are bullshitting and you never really intended to visit the TRNC because you are a GC.
