Removal of electricity pole

Postby Alassa » Mon Jan 28, 2008 1:43 pm

Hi, while our house was being built the developer put a temporary pole in our back yard. We are now on permanent supply and despite repeated promises he hasn't moved the pole and is in fact running extensions from it to other houses being built nearby. We want the pole gone - does anyone know how we go about this? Do we just contact the electricity authority and ask them to move it or does the builder have to do that?

thanks

You can try and ask the electric company to move it ~ they will come to look and give their view as to whether it's movable or not.

Remember to ask and not demand as you might get a better result that way

I'm sure I've answered you on another forum a while ago

Builders have no authority to touch electricity poles so go to AHK and report this as well as requesting an application form to have it moved etc.

The problem is that a alternative location will have to be found and that probably means near or in your neighbours property .

I'm sure your neighbours think it's just fine where it is.

You really should have got it in writing from the builder that the pole was only temporary then you would have had more leverage with him and the electric authority

I think you have been had by the builder and to be honest he had no intention of moving it as it was probably the most convenient place for him to put it at the time ~ telling you a little lie gave him time to get everybody else connected and make everything permanent .

If he was ever going to move it he would have done it before the supply became permanent and was used to supply others ~ the electric company just connected up to the posts provided.

You aren't the first to be had by a lying builder and you certainly won't be the last

Sorry just read your post again and see that the pole is suppling a temp supply to houses being built nearbyin that case I take back my comments above.

I thought the builder had made the permanant supply from that pole to your house and you neighbours house ~ sorry .

Nothing now to do with the electric company if it's a temp supply it's all down to the builder .

You still have a problem because you don't own the house or the land so for the time being the builder can do exactly what he wants and there's very little you can do about it unless he agrees to move it.

His right, there is a lot of them. When dealing with authorities you need to be calm and collected, but when dealing with builders, from experience, you need to be aggressive. If your civilized they tend to walk all over you, they do have experience in it too.

I believe that this pole isn't for homes to be powered up, but instead for the construction sites electricity. If its in your garden, you have every right to ask the EAC to remove the pole.

Hi everyone, thanks for the responses.

The pole is being used to supply temporary electricity to the house next door until they get connected and also for him to build another house further down the plot.

Its not that I mind the pole to be honest but the extension wire into the next house runs right across my roof and he never asked before putting it up. He also cracked some roof tiles in the process and drilled a hole in the wood to put a hook to keep the wire off the ground!

also, every time the supply drops and they need access, they climb over our fence and have broken it umpteen times. we keep our dogs in that yard so they are scared to go in and just hang over the fence!!

I'll contact the EAC and see what we can do.

Thanks
