Turkishcypriots discover their roots - S. Uludag

Sevgul Uludag

TRANSLATION:
The Turkishcypriots discover their roots

The "Facebook", a social tool in the internet, has become a space that the young Turkishcypriots use as space of "defence" - in the Facebook can easily create teams, find old schoolmates, are shared photographs, video and things that you like... But if we look closely the teams created by Turkishcypriots, these reflect a disposal of "selfdefence" of Turkishcypriot culture in the island. Teams that defended the Cypriot accent of Nicosia (Lefko'sja) instead the changed accent (Lefko'sje) that the persons from Turkey use.
Exist teams that write for the recollections from the old Nicosia (even if they are new, the northern part of Nicosia it changes so much rapidly that they can they remember that they were before).
Exists even a team of young men that "used to run behind the spraying machines of municipality" when they were children - ekej'no.ton the time, the streets belonged to the Cypriots and could go walking to the school or run in the streets or still play. Now, exist as a lot of automotive, as a lot of vehicular movement and a change of population so much dramatic that the persons do not leave their children to play in the streets... Thus they miss the old way of life in Cyprus when the children played in the streets... Now, if all in the inside walls cityof Nicosia, you still can see children playing in the streets with the difference however that all the Cypriots have abandoned the inside walls city and moved. The inside walls city belongs henceforth in non-Cypriots and the children that you see playing in the streets are settlers' children.
Certain teams are multicultural, where you can find young Turkishcypriots and Greekcypriots, Armenian Cypriots and Maronite Cypriots... The Cypriot young persons have created teams as "Cyprus - one population", "All the armies out of Cyprus", "Cyprus belongs to Cypriots" etc... a young friend to me has created an interesting team that is named "Yes in the shoppings in the southern part of our island!". It gives directions for this or that beautiful restaurants, or for other parts or it writes for her experience in the Omodos, recommending in the friends what it likes in the south. It has reached in the point to say that it can take Saturdays those that want in a tour - first shoppings, afterwards lunch, shopping again and finally afternoon coffee! This is another line of "defence" adversely of the "authorities" that tried "to punish" Turkishcypriots who were doing their shopping in the southern part of island! This team suffered hard attack from certain fascists, which gave threats. Thus we all run to defend and we called all the friends in the Facebook to come and to support this team. The members increased itself fast and we thus wrote also news for the attacks and the fascists they were forced they recede. However the fascists found another team in which they attacked. Other young men created a new team that is named "No other citizenships" saying that it should are prevented immediately the 50 thousands programmed new citizenships that will be given to new settlers in the northern part of island... Thus the fascists ran throw threats of press "you we will expel from the island!"
Another tendency for "defence" is the rediscovery of traditional Cypriot cooker from Turkishcypriots. All the new restaurants offer now Cypriot dishes as bumbar (gemjsto' sausage), dolma (ntolma'des), mulihiya (moyloyhj'es) etc Bring the names with the Turkishcypriot accent of words and this are as nostalgia, a discovery of our roots, the only thing in which we can be kept... The Turkishcypriots at some way embrace themselves in their own culture because they feel the pressure of change in the population and in the way of life in the island...

There is no need to have such groups in the south. The people speak with their Cypriot accents, traditions are the same as always. The south does not face this kind of problem, its problems are of a different kind.

From Sevgul Uludag's article it is clear that the north is being rapidly swallowed up by its "liberators". They need these defensive movements to save their identity. It is what Bir has been saying about TC identity loss. I wonder how things will work out.

And what have you done to help???Embargoes..Isolation and now crocodile tears......What do you care.......Do you even realise what you are saying.....Do you realise that the people you are talking about have lived on the island for over thirty years...There are these settlers that have been born and bred on the island and some that have not even been off the island ever. You guys make it seem as they arrived yesterday and it may be true that some have but the changes happened long ago and by your hand as well as the Turks, if you want to put blame on anyone.

As for the South not needing it........How one sided can a person get....The island is not the place it was ten years ago let alone since 1963, North or South. Mt father still reminisces about eating beef for the first time when the only cow in his village fell and broke it's leg.........Welcome to the 21st century.......

...and if I say something else what would change?
You’ll take propagandistic opinions out for a walk once again. Nothing new, nothing defferent.

Tcs are trying to defend their roots and culture, they are against of what's going on in the occupied part of our country.
TR is bringing more and more settlers from the depths of Anatolia and baptizes them Tcs! One illegality after another. Tcs are fighting to keep their identity alive, and you are only capable of saying: AH! Nostalgia.............Any such groups in the south????????.
Don't worry about the free part of our country, Zan. We are not fighting to defend our roots. Our culture and our customs are alive. ...and the most important, nobody is trying to erase them or take them away from us.
