The recently released ‘Stones of Famagusta’ documentary on the historical monuments of the old city of Gazimagusa was screened at a prestigious film festival in California.`Stones of Famagusta`, is the first North Cyprus film screened at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which is one of the key events on the Hollywood calendar.
The Documentary, sponsored by Gazimagusa Municipality, was shown on centre stage during the Festival and will be screened again tomorrow.
The documentary charts the history of the old city from medieval times to the Ottomans by exploring its historical buildings.
The film is directed by former BBC producer and director, Dan Frodsham, and presented by art historian, Allan Langdale.
Speaking on the issue earlier, Black Dog Media director, Sanem Sahin, said, ‘We set-out to put Gazimagusa on the world map and with this festival we’ve proved we can do just that.
Our hope is that by telling the world about Gazimagusa’s rich architectural legacy, we can attract the funding and expertise needed to ensure its preservation as a heritage site of world importance’.
The company has said there are plans to take the film to other film festivals and international conferences and the producers are seeking broadcast deals with American and European television networks.
