Purdley , I was one who joined the youth branch of EOKA , called ANE and contributed what ever I was asked and could do , mostly distribution of parcels , leaflets etc. Had the struggle continued into my adulthood I have no doubt that I would have joined the armed struggle to liberated Cyprus , a duty that all peoples have when contrary to their wishes a foreign power occupies them.
The men and women of EOKA -DONT CONFUSE WITH EOKA B - were well disciplined and acted on the whole as a professional unit , reason why it was never defeated by the British.
They did not intimidate the weak and defenceless but punished those that sold their sole to the occupiers. All this now coming from me , a Western world and A British supporter at that !!
ps.the reason I do not take the bullshit of our politicians here in the UK IS MY ABILITY TO STAND ON THE FENCE AND JUDGE ACCORDINGLY.

They asked Churchill to give them ENOSIS in 1907 and both sets killed their own for this end as well as TCs..Where is the glory in that.

The bullies where the British colonialists who where on our island against our will.

Piratis, you Britanniphobic racist scumbag! Both EOKA & EOKA B were scum - the same scum who were in the same class as Sinn Fein/I.R.A. & Z.A.N.U.-P.F. - the subhuman class! It's a pity that both George Grivas & Nikos Sampson weren't taken out & shot back in the 1950's,as they were killing innocent civilians who wanted nothing to do with any fighting.

I knew 2 guys who served honourably in the British Army in Cyprus back in the 1950's.One of them was in a section up near Kyrenia that was shot at by an EOKA terrorist, who,by the way, deserved the bullet that he got back in return.

What is honorable in occupying foreign lands and enslaving its people? Are you kidding me? What the hell were (are) the British troops doing in Cyprus 3000 Kilometers away from Brtain? Why did the Cypriots even have to fight for their liberation? Those British scum bugs should have left when we demanded it.

We have EVERY right to fight against EVERY invader and oppressor of our island. The terrorist are those who came to Cyprus to kill and enslave us, not the Cypriots that fought to defend their island, their freedom and their self-determination.

Piratis,if it hadn't been for the British, then there wouldn't be a country called Cyprus.Cyprus would have gone down the crapper had it remained under Turkish rule after 1878.

As for the British enslaving the Cypriot people, you really are thick! The British were the first colonial power to stamp out slavery - beginning in 1806,when slavery was outlawed in the U.K. itself,& in 1833,when slavery was outlawed throughout the whole British Empire.

The Cypriot people should be grateful to the British,as they established a very strong administrative system of government,& taught the Cypriots how to govern themselves. The British have left a very strong system of government in all of its former colonies, including India & Pakistan.

Hey Piratis,I would give you credit if you did fight, but you don't.You just sit at home and whinge, get off your lazy arse and fight.Forget the peacefull Cypriot tag,it is not warranted.
Please spare us from more of your hate and drivel.

The British have also created huge conflicts around the world - infact pretty much whereever they've gone! Having said that I do agree that Cyprus did benefit from British rule - BUT - ultimately Britain was quite happy to ferment trouble in order to protect it's interests - that's the cold harsh reality of the world i suppose but hardly endearing.
