Is EOKA still active

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Nikitas » Tue Jan 29, 2008 4:43 pm

Purdey,

EOKA did to you what the American revolutionaries did, in fact a lot less in terms of casualties. Would you like to call Goerge Washington or Thomas Jefferson "murdering scum"?

And one more- have you read or heard Churchill's speech "we shall fight them on the beaches....."? Naturally you cannot perceive of the British on the same level as Nazis, but a foreign invader-conqueror is not judged by his politics or his self professed intentions and values. Ask your "American cousins" they will let you know.

They did nothing to me,apart from spit at me and throw a can of urine over me.I was not in the British military. We will always disagree on subjects like these.
We all have different views on all subjects, this is just one I came into contact with.It is only based on my experience, others like yourself will have a different viewpoint..Who is right ?

Purdley , I was one who joined the youth branch of EOKA , called ANE and contributed what ever I was asked and could do , mostly distribution of parcels , leaflets etc. Had the struggle continued into my adulthood I have no doubt that I would have joined the armed struggle to liberated Cyprus , a duty that all peoples have when contrary to their wishes a foreign power occupies them.
The men and women of EOKA -DONT CONFUSE WITH EOKA B - were well disciplined and acted on the whole as a professional unit , reason why it was never defeated by the British.
They did not intimidate the weak and defenceless but punished those that sold their sole to the occupiers. All this now coming from me , a Western world and A British supporter at that !!
ps.the reason I do not take the bullshit of our politicians here in the UK IS MY ABILITY TO STAND ON THE FENCE AND JUDGE ACCORDINGLY.

No mate , EOKA , the original organization was created in order to force the British out of Cyprus and fought a well organized gorilla warfare , the ultimate aim was to bring to fruition the ambitions of the 82 % Greek Cypriots , ENOSIS , union with Greece. Wrong in my opinion , with hindsight .
The original EOKA was disbanded in 1959 upon gaining independence from Britain. EOKA B came on the scene I believe sometime in early 60s and acted as a paramilitary force still nurturing ambitions for ENOSIS.
Archbishop Makarios the president of the ROC opposed EOKA B , having by that time realized that the best option for Cyprus was as an independent nation and not part of Greece.
EOKA B acted entirely under the command of General Grivas who had , contrary to the wishes of the ROC government , returned to Cyprus and spearheaded the campaign against not only the T/Cs but also those G/Cs that opposed him .The rest is history.
