Cytanet seem to have the fast internet speed reserved for it's business clients. I think they feel home users should be happy with a 1mb connection. There is a solution to your dilemma, it involves going for the OteNet 2mb/s connection. This is currently the best price you will get. I believe it is around 25 - 30 pounds (they keep bringing their prices down).

Otenet does seem to be the cheapest around with "decent" speeds in comparison to what else is on offer

How does it work here in Cyprus, do I get locked in into a 12 month contract or can I get out whenever I want?

Anyone have any Otenet experience? Is it good/stable?

I do, I have been with them from September. They're brilliant, no problem what's so ever. I use to have CYTA last year when I was on holiday but it was seriously bad. The're lines where completely wrong. In the UK I had a wanadoo internet acccount (formely Freeserve, now Orange) which was a 512kb/s connection. With CYTA I had a 1mb/s connection that was slower than this. I did a speedcheck and it came up with around 400kb/s. When I questioned them they gave me the obvious bullcr*p that the UK is not Cyprus and Cyprus is a small island. They are falsely advertising a product and they make out that because it's Cyprus it's alright. Soon after I found out that they were having problems with their lines.

On either event Otenet's speeds are genuine and I hardly ever get disconneced. We have 4 PC connected at the same time, sometimes when my brothers are online it can get sluggish.

I recommend OTENET, avoid CYTANET internet, their expensive. OteNet and PrimeTel have started putting their own lines so we should in the next comming years see internet prices fall.

As for your questions.

I think OTENET do get you in on a 12-month contract, but I think it's still possible to leave, they will want their modem back though. There is a 20 pound start up cost.

Stable = YES
Good = YES
GO BACK TO CYTANET = NO

I do not understand anything of what you guys are discussing ... :?

All I can say is that Cytanet were unbelievably fast ... they have been reliable in the last month since thy connected me ... what more can I say ?

I am just waiting for my first bill to find out why / how they can be so efficient :? :lol:

For me, Otenet offer the best deal out there with good speeds at a very competitive price.

I believe it has something to do with their customers switching to other providers. Just a thought.

Well, with my 512Kb connection, surfing is pretty slow and laggy
Though with download rates I sometimes get over 50KB/s which is fine for a 512Kb connection

Guys make sure you don't confuse kilobit (Kb) and kilobyte (KB).
1 byte = 8 bits
