Olli says TC Ports are legal?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The day of recognition for the TRNC and therefore the definite partition is nigh.

That will of course bring with it the definitive end to the Greek and GC dream of ENOSIS or even the end of a GC only ruled/owned Cyprus.

Which dream are you talking about? The dream of ENOSIS and the dream of the GCs wanting to be the sole rulers/owners of the whole of Cyprus or the imminent partition and recognition of the TRNC?

Get Real! wrote:The Cyprus Ports Authority may have declared the port as "closed" and that would stand as far as international law is concerned but the fact that the RoC hasn’t yet prosecuted Turkey over this doesn’t make it legal for Turkey to violate international rules.

S.Cyprus has abstained from suing Turkey not because of any good will, but rather because it knows too well that it would loose.

Any definitive decision would effectively cripple the ability of S.Cyprus to disseminate negative information about the North. The threat of a lawsuit is useful for spreading fear, uncertainty and doubt among those considering entering the North, but an actual lawsuit would be too risky and is unlikely to ever happen. The South will never willingly fire its last bullet and face a repetition of the outcome of Oram's case. Too much to loose, too little to gain.

I'm sure we've been through this ports legality/illegality thing before. Whilst Get Real is right to say the Rehn has got no special authority to interpret the law, the fact that he is Commissioner does give his opinion some weight. In other words, if this report is accurate, he's got no plans to pull the Commission around to oppose the use of north Cyprus ports.

Yet again the debate about whether the use of north Cyprus ports are legal/illegal is entirely derivative of the issue of whether TRNC is legal/illegal. It is not a question of the UN Convention of the Law of the Sea, and it is not as Get Real believes a matter of the International Maritime Organisation.

Oli Renn is just a person. Cyprus is a country with a veto power in EU. Do the maths and see whose opinion counts.

We decide which are the valid ports of entry to our own country and nobody else.

Last time I looked there is was a border between the South and the TRNC.

The UK did sign an agreement with Turkey naming the TRNC as TRNC on paper, have you not heard about it?

Now Olli Rehn says the ports in the TRNC are not illegal.

My "wet dream" or your/GCs worst nightmare?

Eric all we have to do is stand firm as GCs show no sign of compromise to impress anyone, their lack of vision and initiative taking will contribute to our success in showing the world exactly how GCs operate and why the Cyprus will never be resolved...viva la TRNC.
