New Place in the sun

Postby Yorkshirefolk » Fri Jan 25, 2008 12:22 am

Hello everyone,
We are out in Cyprus in a couple of weeks for the handover of our new holiday home in Pafos. (and to dry out after all the rain in the UK)

One thing we haven't got sorted yet is House insurance.

Can anyone recommend any good, cometitive companies for us to get quotes from?
Preferably ones that are on-line so we can apply from the UK.

Many thanks

When you do look around the insurance companies please check that the policy covers you for prolonged absences .

I found that a lot of the insurance policies I checked on would only give you cover up to 31 days if you left your home unattended ~ which is no good if it's a holiday home and you are in the UK most of the time.

It will pay you to read the small print before actually deciding.

Mick, seek legal advice first before you sign any papers,as if you don't get the fine print explained properly, then you can land yourself right in the cart,& you could be forced to part with some of your hard-earned Quid. This applies to all countries with an English common law system, such as Cyprus & here in New Zealand.

We found this true when we left our home in the U.K. too so be careful at both ends. Try and get a relative to stay over a couple of nights every month if you can. Atlantic insurers are good.
