Simple question.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

It is to the GC, if you say your TC they will see you in a better light. If you say your Cypriot, they will think twice, and think your maybe from England or somewhere else because of your inability/difficulty to speak Greek. If you say your Turkish, well I guess they might think you're a soldier or something.

Purdey

It depends on the ideology behind it, in Political terms the we are all "Cypriot" thing is being used by the RoC in struggle to hide the bitter truth about the entire Cyprus dispute.

eg: Every year towards the 20 th of July GC's put out whole page ad's in newspapers saying something like " We Cypriots want the Turkish Army to end the Occupation of Cyprus" . In this context I find that disturbing that they speak for all Cypriots if they had chenged the wording to "Greek Cypriots" I would have no problem with it but using the word "Cypriot" only is just denying the facts.

I agree with T-C here.

I think these sorts of things only serve to divide us.

So long as people put the legitimate democratically elected government at the forefront of running the country for the good of all its voters, what difference does it make?

We could just be called "RoC-voters" :D

I think they say "Turkish Cypriot" because if they say just Cypriot then everybody will think they are Greek because most Cypriots are Greek. When I am in Cyprus I always say Cypriot. When I am abroad again I say Cypriot but sometimes some people have no clue where is Cyprus so I tell them I am Greek.

I say TC because they then always ask "Turkish/Greek?" or "which side?" when I say just Cypriot.

I am a Turkish Cypriot, I agree with Umit the we are all Cypriots ideology the GCs are now pushing is just to little to late, where was this idea in 1963? Its a way of covering up the fact that they want to use this to use their numerical advantage to rule the whole island.

I would have thought that the origins of making a distinction between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots was based on religious beliefs, the Greek Cypriots being of Orthodox faith and the Turkish Cypriots of Muslim faith.

If that possibility is a fact (and I believe it is), then there will soon be something else to argue about judging by the amount of property snatches in the Northern side of the island.

We may soon be lumbered with a third classification , a J/C, Jewish Cypriot.

If that ever happens we will ALL soon be in deep trouble.

You may call ME what you like, as long as it is not pessimist. .

There is always something to argue about, to disagree with
If u r the person who likes that
There can be RC, SC, LC, PC,,,(hehe)
Or we can just be people and tolerate ourselves
But than there would be no discussion :)
