Sorry but I agree with the pumpey chap. You would be better off in the mountains working on a farm,or at a winery, but it is very hard work, but the food is good.

Yes ... but to be pedantic, don't you have a spell checker?

Could be ~ but it can also be spelt B I L L

Before Greece joined the EU I was on a flight to Cyprus sat next to a lady who was on her first trip to our sunny island.

She was asking me if I thought she had got a good rate for her sterling when she changed her GB£2000 into Drachmas .

She actually thought Cyprus was part of mainland Greece ~ wasn't aware it was no where near Greece.

I explained it was located just under Turkey / above Egypt and a few miles across from Lebanon ~ and she would have to change her drachmas to Cyprus pounds ~~ she wasn't a happy lady as she thought she had booked a holiday to Greece.

So I guess it pays to be a little pedantic at times

What I don't understand is if I were to move to GB I would expect to have researched it as to employment, rate of pay, local industry etc. etc. So why when you come to any different country would you not do your research and find out what it is like. You are not in GB you are in Cyprus or in any other country in the world. Don't expect it to be like it was back home because it is not. That is the same as most people complaining about the foreigners coming to GB and not learning the local customs and language. Do you expect to immigrate to a country and the country should cater to you because you are so important. The salaries here suck unless you work for an international company or an off shore company. Do you need to speak Greek? NO! But if you want your life to be easier it will definitely help you in everything you do. You are after all in a Greek speaking island. If you went to Spain then the locals would expect you to speak Spanish if you went to GB then you would expect the locals would want you to speak English. It comes with the territory. I don't understand why people come and bitch and complain it's so bad because if it is then you should go back to where you came from. Or are you so important that a country should change for you because you are from GB. Obviously you chose to leave for a reason so it could not have been that good??????

jacoby, welcome to the forum and good luck with your postings.

May I also compliment you on your input here, a little harsh perhaps (bearing in mind that these two young ladies are filled with expectations), none the less, quite direct and totally relevant, well done.

Thanks Elio, I appreciate your comments. I just believe that before making such an important decision in life you should be informed. As for the 2 girls they should have the proper info. as to what they are getting into. The life of dreams and the life of reality are two different things. If your willing to work hard and you are able to find different opportunities you will be successful here. It all depends on your outlook on life. If you think coming here and working part time or working in the service industry will provide for you then you are better of staying at home. Not that I'm trying to be harsh it's just the reality of this island. Salaries in the local industries suck period. Should they be better, yes, are they, NO... it could go on for a very long time. So if you choose to come good luck.
