gas heater

Postby orokliniservices » Tue Jan 22, 2008 7:51 pm

hi, the "spark" lighter on my gas heater is no longer lighting.. may seem like an easy thing for some to fix, however I don't have much experience with these heaters as my partner is the one who connects the tank and lights it usually.. he's away at the moment and i can't get the damn thing lit. Worked perfectly last night but tonight it doesn't seem to spark when i push the lighter.. any suggestions?

and ps - i've never even seen one of these fires before moving over to cyprus before so no need for ignorant comments. I'm fully aware of how inexperienced I am with them and i'm sure it's a very easy problem to fix.

Light it, what could happen? You probably won't blow up. It's gas, right? so you can smell it. If you have ever cooked you would have known how to light it.

You have to determine firstly if your gas heater starter works with battery or piezo crystal. If battery, then you need to change the battery, normally a 'C' type. If it's a piezo starter then you won't be able to fix it yourself. What I suggest you do is press the button which you would to start the pilot lamp, keep it pushed while lighting the pilot with matches or lighter, hold it for a few seconds and then let go. This should work I hope. Good luck.
