I think it can be changed but only after 6 months of residence in Cyprus.
I've changed mine, but I'm not from UK.

Keep the UK licence but get the address changed to a UK relative or friend.

If you are already in Cyprus you can still use your licence here indefinitely ( well til you are 70 anyway) but you could have the problem of not having a valid address on it.

I changed mine to my sons address in the UK before I moved.

Keep your UK license. It will get you away from quite a few tickets. Unless of course is a DUI or a hit and run.

Lots of reasons andreas

If you are still keeping a home in the UK then obviously there's no need to use someone else address ~ when I called the dvla in Swansea they said it doesn't really matter altering my address but suggested putting my licence in my sons address in case I wanted to renew it or it gets lost and I need a replacement as they will not accept a Cyprus address to do that.

I advise you to keep your UK driving license. As Cyprus is a member of the EU you do not need to change your driving licence. However occasionally when you get stopped, officers will advise you to change it, this is not mandatory and in the long run it will only incur points on your license. I am shore you don't want any of those. If you are particularly bad the Cypriot government could go to the embassy and ask for the points to be transferred over, but I don't see this happening any time soon. In the future it probably will.

Apart from playing this system, in order to get a Cyprus driving license I think (please correct me if I am wrong) you have to give in your UK driving license, some companies in the UK are funny about accept foreign forms of ID. When I was in the UK they did not recognise my Cypriot ID card and demanded to see a passport, so much for Europe.

This would only benefit you if you decided to wipe out your British identity, for the record I would not recommend this either, it's always best to keep your options open.

putting my licence in my sons address in case I wanted to renew it or it gets lost and I need a replacement as they will not accept a Cyprus address to do that.

The DVLA are amongst the worse companies I've dealt with, I think the answers they give vary and there more inclined to find ways NOT to help you than find simple effective solutions. I suppose what Bill did was the best way to deal with them.

As Sega wrote, you are not obliged to "convert" or change your DL but it's better, not only for dealing with police etc but also when buying the car here and insuring it

you are quite wrong with your comments.

You don't need your licence when you buy a car ~~ I've never had problems insuring my car even before Cyprus joined the EU.

And as far as the police go you are less likely to get points on your UK licence as it's to much effort with the paper work etc for them to bother.
