How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

And the Egyptians gave it a Greek name? What did they call it in Egyptian? Who was their first elected leader?

You do have a sense of humor! Unless you are going to be spouting that Black Athena crap which is even funnier than regular comedy. It goes something like "the Greeks got their knowledge from the Alexandria librabry, which is where Aristotle studied and then he went on to teach Alexander the Great who expanded Greek culture to the known world". Is this what you are saying Eric?

It is a bit silly to claim that 'X not Y invented democracy.' Neither the Greeks nor the Egyptians nor the 'Indians' nor anyone else invented democracy. First, democracy is not an object. Second, it is not something that was not there one day and then, by virtue of 'invention, was there the next day. Third, democracy does not have a given and definitive form so therefore cannot be the product of a singular invention or inventor. Fourth, we should not mistake and confuse the name given to something for its origins. Yes, the word democracy has classical Greek roots; but the notion of democracy discussed (or practiced) in classical Greek city states bears little resemblance to what would now be taken as democracy. And let's face it, Alexander the Great was no democrat; and nor was Aristotle by modern understandings. Fifth let's not be distracted by spurious arguments about who invented it and let's fight against facism and racism and band together for a democratic Cyprus, Turkey, UK .....
