Calling Iceman and all other TV/Aerial reception gurus...

Postby Get Real! » Fri Jan 18, 2008 1:26 pm

Ok guys, I've just moved into my new home so everything is being done here for the first time by yours truly :) ...so here's the layout of my TV reception etc... (Picasso follows)

Everything works but the problem is that reception quality is poor and ever changing...

Thanking you in advance...

PS: Adjusting the variable resistors on the mixer does nothing.

Regards, GR.

G_R ,
Is it possible to get converter from RF to A/V in your place.
Your set top box must have A/V out put.
Am i right ?
By looking your drawing job has been done in a amatore way. With booster you are amplifiying noise as well. Also every socket that you are not using it must be terminated with 75 ohm resistors otherwise empedance of the system changes.you can get reflection in the system its mean lost of the signal(weak) or ghost images on the screen.Rf power always changes due to propagations factors or changing power of the transmitters outputs that's way you get signal variations.

GR why do you need an amplifier and then a booster again? Couldn't the first box be just a mixer? Here is what I would do: I would take a small TV and connect it sequentially at each point. First directly on the antennas then after the Mixer then after Amino and then after the booster. Then you will know where the problem is! If you have problem with both Aerial and Mivision then it probably means the problem is from the Amino and after.

He will probably need to change ... party affiliation too! Papadopoulosis does tend to cause serious reception problems which are perfectly okay if you keep your blinkers on.

P.S. How about a beer to celebrate the move GR?

GR,

Does each of the 12 tv outputs run a separate cable upto the antenna?

Some lazy, cheapskate electricians will just daisy chain the cables instead of seperate runs. If this is the case then the connections will cause signal loss.

Do you get poor reception in all the rooms or just some? because this could be down to the run of the cable, bends and kinks etc.

By having a booster and an amplifier can make matters worst as you could just be suffering distortion of excess signal strength.

Needs a step by step approach starting top down.

Best I can do from 50 miles away. Anyway enjoy your new home.
