This is actually an additive used in Diesel fuel. Most people think Amyl Nitrite is called Amyl Nitrate though. In fact, Suede did a song a while back called "Animal Nitrate" so were obviously confused too. ;) I suspect Brett Anderson used it for the reason I stated above.
