Flight Safety

Postby skyvet » Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:15 pm

In light of the emergency landing at Heathrow yesterday, and speaking as a retired pilot myself, this seems an opportune moment to remind anyone travelling by air of the importance of being knowledgeable about the safety procedures for the aircraft you're travelling on. Safety procedures vary between aircraft type, and the advice offered in my signature line is good advice - believe me!
The flightdeck crew handled a nightmare situation with great professionalism, and the cabin-crew of the BA flight carried out their evacuation in a highly efficient manner. Congratulations to them for a job well done.
In conclusion, may I draw your attention to my signature line.

Do you think that you will need that when you fall free from 10.000 meters?
I doubt that.
One must be kind' stupid to believe he can survive.

If that is your attitude, please ensure that you do not book a seat on the same flight as me!

Wait a second, why don't you explain to me how that info would help me if the plane crashes? (I've read it anyway, because I was bored).

I'm just curious, maybe I got it all wrong.
Please, explain.

well this issue... i think has to sides,,,speaking as person who is scared A LOT of flying...but however it doesnt stop me from flying... there's two sides to the coing,,,people say that flyign is the safest way of travellign etc etc etc,,,,well if we take the statics when say a plane crash and a car crash have occured which has the highest survival rate,,,? how often it happens i think is irrelevant what matters is when it actually happens,,,

p.s which is better boieng or airbus?

Bill and cyprusgrump, if you refered to me, why don't you explain this crap to me too?
I really don't get how a piece of paper can help you if the plane just stops... at 10.000 m?

And what is more funny, is that people there, when you take off, they teach you how to use that floating thing(coat or smth... I don't know what it is). Do they think that on impact to water from that high would remain anything from the plane?

I don't get it. 8)

If it falls from 10.00 meters nothing can save you! But most accidents happen during landing or take off and in those cases knowing what to do can save your life.

People do survive accidents and as the events at Heathrow yesterday showed people can get out. Planes simply don't 'stop' and fall out of the sky – they can actually glide for some distance...

I agree that if an aircraft flies into a mountain you have little chance but that isn't the only type if incident that they are preparing you for.

Bill and I are thinking that in the event of an incident we don't want to be trapped behind somebody that has yet to read the safety instructions and doesn't know what to do...
