Firstly thank you for a more balanced approach without wise cracks which always help us see beyond having to be on the defensive.

You seem to think that GCs want a true federation in the fashion that you described above, they may pay lip service to this idea but over the past 4 years since the AP have you seen them put any new proposals forward? have you seen them take any positive steps towards reconciliation and union? You really have to try and look at it from this side of the fence, we have a strong relationship with Turkey who has supported us in every way possible, we have the TRNC which if you visited you would see is a functioning country in every sense of the word (albeit unrecognized) on the other hand we have no relationship with GCs south with whom we have a dark past and ample mistrust, to boot the only referendum was voted down by them which was another slap in the face for TCs and a clear indication that GCs are not interested in a solution that will not give them 100% of what they demand. Which would you choose? You really have to come to terms with the fact that neither side has the vision or the desire to resolve the Cyprus issue, this is it and it will not change in our life times, so we have to make the best of it and try to live our lives the best way we can. 2008 may bring a flurry of activity but the end result will be the same status quo with a few little steps on the relaxation of the isolation of the north...we can argue till the cows come home but the chasm is to wide to bridge and will get wider over the coming years, it will take bold moves on both sides to get this train on track and seeing we do not have any fuel we are destined to stay as we are.

Kikapu your wise cracks are becoming very boring and childish can you not just stick to the subject in hand, I know its very hard for someone who cannot control their desire to grind anything Turkish into the ground. Have you not realized that the Turkish "assimilation" doom and glood you predict (which are our origins) is preferred to assimilation into a GC state run by GCs for GCs. The Gcs are not clever enough and lack the vision necessary to take compromising steps to unite this island so we are left with the current stalement which will be around long after you are long gone. We will continue to push for what we feel is necessary for the TRNC to progress this may not be recognition today or tomorrow but small steps will take us to where we want to go.

For over 400 years we were never assimilated with the GC's, so I don't know where your concerns come from. I use to hear people in San Francisco who just arrived from out of town, that they were afraid to go anywhere around the Gay District, because they might turn Gay. Silly people I hear you saying, and I agree with you, but this is what you are telling me VP, that we would end up being assimilated.

As far as uniting goes. How can the island be united, when we would have two states acting totally differently from each other, if we do not have a strong central government. What you talk about is what is now happening in Belgium....disaster. First of all, the GC's will never agree to that kind of a deal, where the North would want to be a "separate country" from the rest of the island. I have told you many time before, that going back to the 1960 constitution will not work for us any more, not that it worked for anyone to begin with. If we are going to insist on a majority state for the TC's, then the only way I can see it happening, is to have a True Federation of North and South, but freedom of movement as well as everyone being able to claim their properties where ever it will be possible. We will have representatives in the Government, as well as , any Cypriot GC or TC will be eligible to run for Presidency. This is our best hope that the GC's will also go for on this kind of agreement. But this is not what you guys want.

So, the only option left then, is to see Turkey take over the "TRNC" which you think is to our benefit because we had a "relationship" with them from 400 years ago, which she will turn around and use us to cut some kind of a deal with the RoC. I hope we will get a True Federation out of it, but that will be between Turkey and the RoC. Do you really want to wait and find out what card that will be dealt to us by those two, or perhaps we should control our destiny by cutting a fair deal with the GC's now. But sadly, I do not see it being even proposed by us, because we are determined that we will get what we want at the end, which is equal power sharing 50-50, to which the response from the GC's is, "go and get a 50-50 power sharing with Turkey in that case, but we want half the land the "TRNC" sits on back", then they will tell us we can do what ever the hell we want in the remaining "TRNC" land, as Kifeas and his crew start building their 6 meter wall, and then Humanist comes after it is finished, and adds another two meters on top of it. Well, that's what they said they will do anyway.

True Federation with True Democracy is what Europe is all about, and it is time we became part of it.

You seem to think that GCs want a true federation in the fashion that you described above, they may pay lip service to this idea but over the past 4 years since the AP have you seen them put any new proposals forward? have you seen them take any positive steps towards reconciliation and union? You really have to try and look at it from this side of the fence, we have a strong relationship with Turkey who has supported us in every way possible, we have the TRNC which if you visited you would see is a functioning country in every sense of the word (albeit unrecognized) on the other hand we have no relationship with GCs south with whom we have a dark past and ample mistrust, to boot the only referendum was voted down by them which was another slap in the face for TCs and a clear indication that GCs are not interested in a solution that will not give them 100% of what they demand. Which would you choose?
