From what I've read, the Turkish supporters do that as a response to the HFC. Yuo think they'd sit back placidly and let Hellenic Xenophobia run unchallenged?

That's what they want Dean but they have to learn that they can't have everything they want no matter how much they whinge, whine, cry and stomp their feet like little spoiled brats.

What are you talkng about?? Please...go back 20 years and watch any game where a turkish team plays a greek/cypriot team in Turkey. No one even knew about the HFC a week ago.

My own team Apoel played Trabzonspor last year. Before the game started about 400 kids came into the pitch carrying 'trnc" flags and did 2 laps with them. In the crwd there was a banner about 10 rows wide and just as much long showing the map of the Aegean with Turkey Greece and Cyprus coloured red and under the moon and crescent.

There was a huge sign saying Istanbul since 1453.

There was another saying Greeks won the gold in swimming during the pogroms in Smyrni (Izmir) (that was from a game with Panathinaikos.)

Hey, if there's any games like this that use UNDEFACED national flags and banners showing non-political statements, then I might revise my opinion. Highly unlikely that these fanatics would be doing that, though...

I can just imagine you at games like this with a defaced Greek flag (depicting words like "Kypros", "Constantinople", "Macedonia" on the white stripes) in one hand, and a scimitar in the other hand, screaming abuse at Turkey and anything and anyone remotely related to that country... Isn't that what sweet pretty Greek maidens are expected to do?

I understand that trying to defend Turkey on matters such as racism, hate, backwardness and fanatiscism is a difficult job, so you'll have to try a lot harder than this

Can you show me any such flags from the HFC in the tennis matches? And since we're on this matter, what is wrong with a Greek flag with the words Macedonia on them? Macedonia is a northern region in Greece.

DT,

I think Expatkiwi's refering to the Republic of Macedonia (FYROM to you). In any case, I saw pictures of these supporters flags on the ATCA site a few months ago, so he does have solid evidence to back up that observation.
