Out of the many hobbies I had prior to coming to Cyprus one was indeed coin collecting and still is to a very limited degree.
I started off in 1973 buying special year sets of uncirculated coins when number two son was born shortly after I extended that to include a boxed set of proof ( specially struck ) coins then I got the bug and collected most of the other new coins minted every year ~ mostly silver ones .
It doesn't take long for the collection to grow and grow and get out of hand and expensive ~ like the complete wooden boxed set of silver proof £5 coins of the UK and commonwealth ~ I've mentioned that just to make adia jealous ~ it is a very nice set though.
The collection now occupies a double wardrobe in my sons house in the UK
My Roman bronze and silver coin collection I sold before moving to Cyprus
Also yes I collected motor bikes ~ if I saw a box of bits that apparently used to be a motorbike especially if it was Britsh I couldn't resist buying it and then paying thousands to restore it .
I obviously had to much money and spare time for my own good .
I had a friend who collected pubic hair from his conquests for many years and on reflection I don't now think he's was as mad as I first thought.
certainly better than coins.
I'm also into electronics ( building circuits ) and amateur radio in a small way but as I'm married to a Cypriot I have to do something to keep my brain working and hands occupied.
Why do people collect things ~~ I haven't a clue .
