Filitsa and GG,

Do you know of an American who was physically assaulted or worse in Greece or Cyprus? Becaue I know of at least two students who were murdered while on outings in the USA. There is one vast gap between arguing with someone over some political or other point and killing someone because you did not like the way he looked at you in a disco. Sticks and stones etc.

The city of Detroit has more murders and other violent crimes in a week than Greece and Cyprus together have in a year. Obviously some people in Detroit dislike Americans and are busy proving it.

GG, my wife is an American, and I'm a US citizen although don't consider myself an American. We never felt we were in any kind of danger. I know quite a few Americans here, both on the North and on the South and non of them ever felt threatened or abused. Their kids go to school just like every other kid. Most of them on the south their kids even go to public schools and never ever had any problems.
You are worried about nuclear accidents etc.
Ok let me give you some american examples as I spent 10 years of my life living there.
Florida, their houses get blown away from tornados every year and they still go back.
California, a massive earthquake is coming as per every scientist that will destroy LA and I don't see anyone moving out because of that.
Norfolk, VA ... Largest naval base in the world, CIA headquarders, Oceana Airforce base etc ... first place to be hit if America gets attacked. Millions of people live there.
And last but not least NY ... your underground water is polluted by nuclear waste, the hatson river basically glows in the dark from nuclear waste. Do I even need to mention September 11?

i think Filitsa and GorillaGal..should really really really get out more,,,watch less movies...drink a bit less... learn a bit of history so that at least they can understand the people and their culture.... obviously where you are from ther e is a lack of values, culture etc,,ask how many americans know where cyprus is? i cant wait to see how many people will know,,,people dont even know how many states there are,,not alone internationally....
ai m sorry to be like this,,and i have many american freinds,,,we are really good friend's but i really get annoyed when people that * dont know* to make conclusion and generalise issues...

cyprus is not safe,?,,what are you on about woman,,,how many murders happen in cyprus and how many in the US? racist attacks..? ok the driving is not great. it's getting better...also .if the police doesnt kill you in the US then you will prob be mugged or killed in a gang initiation incident, how many people have guns in the US and how many people have guns in cyprus? ,let's get real people... cyprus i think is one of the safest places on earth....at least if something happens to you people will stop and help you,,,if you drop dead in america,,or if someone attacks you no one,,,and i repeat NO ONE will give a *bip bip * bout you...

Most males (95%) have guns ~ I'm surprised you aren't aware of this .

There is a huge hunting culture in Cyprus so virtually every household has at least one shotgun ( often more ) plus those in the army or reserve have a G4 auto and ammunition under the bed.

Guns ~ the island is awash with them ~ fortunately due to virtually full employment and a small and controllable population we haven't got the numbers of nutters wanting to use them as in other countries.

Bill, your percentage is way off. It is 45%.
The army rifle is a G3 I believe and if anyone has the balls to use it even for fun, if a bullet is missing he is looking at many long, long, long years behind bars.

And to add some more to andreas comments. How many americans actually have a passport.
A survey in 1996 asked thousands of high school students in the US which one is bigger, the US or the former USSR. 78% answered the US !!!!

not my point Bill....but another point how many are allowed to use and carry (legally) guns in cyprus,(not in hunting, security or reserve),?,in the US ?everyone......which country has a high criminal rate cyprus or the us?
how many people did you see carry guns in everyday life in cyprus and how many people carrying guns with them 24/7 in the US?
....do you have kids? do you think your kids are safer in the US or Cyprus?.

Please don't start on guns Bill.I shoot in fact it is my business.Greek 75 is correct 45% is the correct figure.Rifles are a strict no, no in Cyprus and the penalties for use are severe.I love my hunting in Cyprus, myself and my friends are responsible.Gun related inccidents in Cyprus are rare, let's not forget guns don't kill people do...

Anyone watched the news that UK will enforce airport security mesures in all schools in a desperate attempt to stop students from carring knifes in schools and stop them from killing each other.
Anyone saw the pictures of those knifes. Not even special forces don't use these.
Some please tell me that they prefer their kids growing up in that evironment than in Cypurs.
