After 50 years...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

After 50 years...

Here's something positive in the midst of all negativity.

A TC and a GC team came together for a soccer match in Larnaca after 50 years. Here's an image from Kibris gazetesi.

Good news... any figures for the number of spectators? I'd be all for a Pan-Cyprian league, but having been to some Cyprus football matches in my time, I found the level of hooliganism quite shocking Image (reminded me of mid-1980s English matches  ). So, I'm not sure it would be such a great idea in that respect.Image

Kibris gazetesi says there were 3000 spectators. Ferdi Sabit Soyer, Dimitris Hristofyas, Özkan Yorgancıoğlu (Youth and Sport Minister of the north) and Yorgos Lillikas (Industry and Trade Minister of the south) were among the spectators.

According to Kibris gazetesi, the atmosphere was very positive and GC fans of Nea Salamina greeted TC fans very well. There was also a mini bicommunal concert during the half-time.

Newspapers reported about 3,500. Politicians from Akel and CTP were also present. The game was in honour of a TC player (I think his name is Ulusoyie) who was recently transferred from Yeni Tzami team to Nea Salamina team.

Unfortunately this is true. Every weekend a few funs will be rushed to hospitals after clashes between them.

This is one of the reasons why I do not enjoy going to football games anymore.

Quite amazing how much weaponry gets into stadiums considering almost every time I've been I've frisked by a guard going into the stadium. Thus you can imagine my surprise when one on occasion a flare fired by an AEL fan missed me by a few feet during one Omonia match... crazy...
