How geopolitics underminded democracy in Cyprus in 1960

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

We fought for what we believed was right and will continue to do so, we will never allow you to dominate or brush us to one side, we will not allow you to take decisions for us when we are totally against them, the sooner you understand this the better it will be for everyone.

The Nazi's fought for what they believed was right also.

...and we will not allow you to steal away our homes and heritage like the Turks have done all through their history.

See you on the battlefield.

True independence someone above has said. Is it possible in Cyprus where we cannot unite as Cypriots to tell the British to pay up or get out of their bases?

Through the years I have been following events on the island there has never been a truly Cypriot politician who addressed the whole of the people treating all of them as relevant. GC politicians speak only to GCs and TCs likewise. The only exceptions are perhaps the late mayor of Nicosia, Dervis, and Christofias who does it because Talat and he were comrades in AKEL.

We treat each other as irrelevant out of habit more than intent. This is not the way to true independence.

VP, in countries ethnic groups do not take decisions separetely. You have to get used to this fact.

What you are against is democracy and a trully united Cyprus, and thats criminal and illegal and not you right at all.

In Cyprus we should have what they have in every other democratic country. And don't start me you "evil GCs theories again" because if we look at our history the most evil things where done by the Turks, not us. So stop the lame excuses to cover up your desire to steal a big part of our country.

The English and Americans also fought for what they believed was right, its goes on all over the world and is nothing new. GCs can be classed with Nazis as they wanted to rule the whole of Europe and you people want to dominate the whole of Cyprus, all we want to do is share the island, we tried united for us it was hell on earth, divided brought a peace and prosperous life for all.

VP, the Nazis didn't want to rule their own homeland. They used force in order to invade and illegally occupy other sovereign countries, which is what the Turks do, not us.

Did you know that the Nazis have also used your lame excuse when they invaded Czehoslovakia? They said they invaded this country in order to protect their German minority there from the evil majority of that country.

Piratis, other countries do not share the same chain of events that have led to our division, that's why unification is near on impossible. I ask for protection and the right to say no from a numerical majority which has proved they are constantly trying to seek vengeance for what the Ottomans did 500 years ago, this you yourself admit t and constantly remind us of. If you are still trying to get back at us for events which took place 500 years can you imagine how you will try to overturn any agreements or stop safeguards being incorporated in future agreements in order to expose us to your mercy for the resentment you harbour for events which only took place 34 years ago.

Its not stealing its called sharing our country, you were not clever enough to unite the island when you had the chance under a constitution which you cling onto so dearly today but rejected even before you signed it, the problem for you is the TCs you do not want them nor do you want to acknowledge their fears as it does not suit your ultimate goal which is for the GCs to rule supreme over the whole island. What I as a TC say to you as a GC is, that if the safeguards to protect my community are insufficient we to will resounding say NO.

VP, the only one who seeks vengeance for past events is non else than you, and this is why you commit crimes and illegalities against us as we speak. What we want is democracy, legality and human rights for all, not to punish anybody.

I am only referring to the crimes you started to commit against us 4+ centuries ago and you have not stopped ever since to show to you that we are not the "evil" ones as you claim, but on the contrary the victims of the Turkish aggression and expansionism against our island which started 4 centuries ago and continues until today. We don't want you to be punished or us to be rewarded on your loss. All we want is for our island to finally be allowed to be free without foreign troops and rulers, and with democracy and human rights for all. Unfortunately, as always, you are looking for excuses to continue with crimes and illegalities instead.

The land you illegally occupy is the homeland of 5+ times more Greek Cypriots than Turkish Cypriots. You ethnically cleansed the majority of the population, stole their homes and properties, rule their land without their permission, destroyed their churches, changed the names of their villages and then you tell me that this is called "sharing"?

You ruled supreme over the whole island for 3+ centuries without giving a damn about what the great majority of this island wanted. It is time to allow Cypriots (this includes you) to democratically rule their own island, and stop trying to impose by force your own will.
