Abkhazia recognizes North Cyprus?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Abkhazia recognizes North Cyprus?

Postby utu » Fri Jan 11, 2008 6:31 am

This sounds like blind greeting the blind. An unrecognized state recognizing another unrecognized state? What does Abkhazia (which to the uninformed is a seperatist part of the Georgian Republic) have to gain by this action?

Bro, I believe they are Turkic and Orthodox Christians. I know the Armenians,Greeks and Russians living there sided with them against Georgia.I guess though that prior to the deportation of the Abkhazi by Stalin muslims made up the majority of there populous.I havent read anything on Abkhazia recognizing the TRNC though. Russia pretty much controls there government so I would find it very strange, since they have a sizable Armenian,Greek and Russian community.

I read the article in the online news regarding Abkhazia opening a representaive office in TRNC. It is a form of diplomatic relation, but other countires have representative offices in (north) Nicosia without formally recognizing the TRNC, so this action - while IMHO welcome - is something not to infer too much into regarding any future intentions of formal recognition, though since Abkhazia is unrecognized, is such an action going to gain any real attention from other nations?
It is surprising though that - like Transdnistra - Abkhazia is supported by Russia, which is of course a close diplomatic ally of the Greek Cypriot government, so for the Abkhazia regime to do this is interesting, given its position in the Caucasus and its dependence upon Russia to survive against Georgia.

Who said geopolitics had to make sense? Abkhazia's decision to do establish a diplomatic mission in north Cyprus was clearly because it was deemed to be in its own best interest to do so.

Whereas the truth might be that some private company from Abkhazia has just rented an office there for maybe 2-3 months.

Armenian Cypriot,Russia has been sticking its nose into Georgia's internal affairs for years.Russia supports 2 separatist entities in Georgia - Abkhazia & South Ossetia.

The Georgians are mainly Orthodox Christians like the Armenians are. Both Armenia & Georgia have their own autocephalous Orthodox Churches.
