The Turkish President Abdullah Gul has called on the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to give a start to a new initiative on the Cyprus issue.

The momentous meeting between Mr Gul and Mr Ban took place in New York last night.

The two had a special dinner meeting which was organized at Turkey’s UN Permanent Representative Baki Ilkin’s residence.
Turkish President Abdullah Gul answered reporters’ questions on his arrival to the hotel after his meeting with Ban Ki-Moon.

Mr Gul said the Cyprus issue was a top topic during his meeting with the UN Secretary-General, adding that the Cyprus issue will remain as a vital subject of discussion in future meetings with Mr Ban.

Pointing out that the presidential election which is to be held in South Cyprus in February will play a significant role in the process of settlement in Cyprus, Turkish President underlined the need for working towards a solution.

Reports from the Anatolian News Agency said that during last night’s momentous meeting, Mr Gul called on Mr Ban to take a new initiative in the solution process in Cyprus.

Observers say that the UN Secretary-General is well aware of the Turkish side’s demand for a new initiative but he prefers taking a step on the issue after the presidential election is held in South Cyprus.

Halil,

I am confused, I thought you kept on bragging about how independent TRNC was and that you make your own decisions, yet just tell me why did Mr Gul go to the UN to discuss the Cyprob and not Mr Talat???

Isn't Mr Talat (god bless him) the leader of the TRNC? Doesn't he have any say?? I guess not then.

In case you haven't yet realised, its because you guys are just little puppets and Turkey is pulling all the strings. Don't kid yourselves about having an independent community, wake up and smell the coffee. When mummy says jump you just say how high.

Soon, you community WILL be turkified and YOU will be a refugee in your own country. And that would serve you right.

The problem with Gul is that 1 month a go he was talking for 2 people, 2 relegions, 2 states in Cyprus.
Now he goes to the UN and he says he wants speeding up the process for a solution under the UN knoing damn well the 2-states solution was nover on the UN agenda...

On a side note he managed to make Bush his messenger.GC media say Bush relayed to Ban kimoon that the '8th July agreement doesn't cover the TCs anymore" whatever that "cover" means.
It seems hali's propaganda machine missed this very important INFO.

VP,
Last Ankara visit of the President Talat showed TC's and Turkey's policies are same .(İncluded Turkish Army as well) This is very important part of it .
After Talat visit the Ankara , Gül was going to America , Gül visit to America was good chance for TC's that GÜL also said to UN's that Turkey is also supporting the negotiations.
Talat always says TC's side ready for talks .
