I had read a couple of months ago of negotiations between the Cypriot Football Association and the administrative body that controls the Northern Cypriot football teams. I understand that these talks are under the aegis of UEFA and FIFA with the goal of uniting ALL soccer clubs on the island and thus making a truly national team to represent Cyprus in future. Has there been any further progress on this?
As a matter of interest, I did raise my eyebrow at some of the comments from FIFA stating, "we cannot support two seperate football bodies in one country, which is why we are pursuing these negotiations". If so, then please explain Israel and Palestine, plus China and Taiwan (Chinese Taipei), all seperate entities in FIFA.
Also, would the Cypriot Football Association be prepared to use at FIFA matches their association flag and a neutral anthem as the north would not wish to have their players listening to the Greek Anthem? China-Taipei uses their association flag, and they use 'The Flag song' rather than their official anthem 'San Mu Chu I' because of Chinese objections.
Just wondering.
